Hi all,

Just wondering which races everyone is planning to do this year - I really like the Rockingham Tri, Perth Olympic Distance and Busso Half. You can probably tell that I dont like hills !!

I'll be over for Busso   Would love to do the Perth Oly, but will swap that out with a Melbourne one.
I'm with you on hills mate - good for training on, but not for racing!

Training for the City of Perth Oly and the Karri Valley Tri.  Last year I did 500/15/4 and was hoping to do double that this year but it's been increased to  1.5/60/12.  The bike is over very hilly roads (you'd hate it Jeff) so it's quite a challenge and I'll have to see where I am at the end of March.  I will be there though, even if it's as a volunteer as it's a great event.  The Munchkin was promised last year that next time he could hand out water to the runners so he's really excited.  Not quite ready for Busso yet, psychologically as well as physically but I'll be cheering you both on.  Other than that, I'll fit in some sprints and OWS races when I can.

You'll love the City of  Perth Oly Daisy - it's my favourite race. Expect headwinds on the bike course out and a tailwind home but apart from that it's a really nice course and you can not beat the scenery!

I would love to enter a series this year... either the WA Summer Triathlon Series or the TriEvents Triathlon Series in preparation for the busso half.

Which events I enter depends on location/distance/date/cost so I guess I will have to look a bit closer when they announce the series costing.

As I am new to this, are there any other series on this year?

Check out the calender on the Triathlon WA website  http://triwa.org.au/ for other events.   I've never done an allbarnone event but the trievents I've done have been really well organised.  Jeff - the only thing I'm worried about is the river swim, mainly the turbid water, I've not had a very good record in the Swan.  Ooh, and of course, being DFL :-)

Casual_tri - look out for the BRW corporate event as well.  It's an awesome day out, bit of fun as it's a relay race so you can get work colleagues and friends into triathlon as well.  Oh, and this also has a Swan river swim
Daisy, the Swan isn't that bad really...... though I would reccomend a test swim maybe down at Mathilda Bay just to get used to the jelly fish.  They're harmless ones though, unlike the stingers at Busso!  Be aware also that the Swan can get quite warm, so it's possible for it to be a non-wetsuit swim.
Oh, and it's a lot nice looking than the Yarra

Hey Nigel, I swam in Matilda bay to get over my river demons - forced myself in there until I could swim through the jellies and just let them glide off me and not get panicked every time I saw a pelican Smile  The people at the cafe thought I was bonkers and it was freaky as I was the only person in there and had such a large audience.  I'm just worried about the visibility really, I got so spooked at the Karri Valley last year because the lake was so black, I hyperventilated every time I tried to put my face in it.  I'm worried that with the mud all churned up, I'll panic again.  I'll be seeing the Yarra soon, we're in Melbourne the first week of the school hols and I'm looking forward to some early morning runs by the river.

Hey Daisy
Glad you enjoyed the river!  I think it did get a bit cloudy at the BRW but not so you'd panic.  One of my teammates is a poor swimmer and he got through OK, so I'm sure you'll be fine.  After all those OW swims you did last year, you'll rock it.
Seems like I can't get away from the WA section...... Melbourne is nice, but cold!!!!
When are you heading over?  Not up on school hols with not having any kids....   Will keep an eye out for you!!

26th - 30th September, thanks for the heads up about the cold - I'll bring lots of woolies.  Then we're driving  down to Brisi and Lismore for a week, really looking forward to seeing Byron Bay.   I'm hoping to run every morning so if you see a puce-faced woman in a black running skirt and red singlet running by the Yarra, say hi, it might be me.

I'll keep an eye out for you then.  Got a couple of days off that week to settle into the new place so might have a jog into the city
