Hello all This is my first Triathlon. I am scared of the swimming part since i am not a strong swimmer. Anyone have any good advice or know where i can get some training on my technique here in the west valley/Good year area? My Tri is on Nov 7th  and i have to swim a mile.
Thanks

Welcome to the world of triathlon. I'm guessing that you're talking about the Amica triathlon at Lake Pleasant. This is an open water swim so I would get some time in with some lake swimming before the race. You are also going to probably need a wetsuit which will also help you float and give you a little more confidence in the water.

I would suggest Chris Aikman as a swim coach. He trains out of Arrowhead Country Club and does open water swims at Lake Pleasant a couple of time a month. I went into his training struggling with my swim and after a couple of lessons I made huge improvement.

I've also heard good things about Camelback Coaching.

Get a little help and you will do great. Congrats on your new endeavor.

I had a strong swimming background when I started triathlons (20 year gap between h.s. swim team and starting my triathlon activities though) and the best thing I did for my swim was join a Masters Swim group.  Google it and you should find some in the W Valley. Very affordable and you not only get tips from the coach, you also can pick fellow swimmers brains for help.

If your race is indeed OWS, then you will also benefit from at least a few lake swims before the race.  Find a group activity or stick to a designated swim area for safety.

Good luck and welcome to the madness

Yes, Masters groups and coaches are good. Personally though, I did just fine with "Swimming for Dummies" and a few inexpensive private lessons at the YMCA. Still not terribly fast but I did learn good technique and how to economize and conserve for the bike and run.
