After doing the course yesterday, I read rumors instead of Syracuse it was going to be held in Pocono's. Went on the website and saw this:

http://www.ironmanpoconomountains.com/

Kind of sad, I thought the Syracuse one was alot of fun and well done ( the run is ugly in terms of downtown but the fact it was downhill made it nice :@). Can't complain about Pocono's either since it looks pretty anyways. Just wasn't sure if this will replace Syracuse...so maybe our Syracuse stuff will be a collector's item :@)

I haven't heard anything about the Poconos race replacing Syracuse.  I thought it was an additional race?

It does say "expands to Pocono Mountains".  That said Syracuse in not yet listed on the 2011 schedule though it could be early for that.  I hope Syr sticks around, I'm from there and wanted to head up next year for the race.

I have no proof to back it up, but I did Syracuse this weekend as well, and a local triathlete told me they had a 3 year contract at Syracuse.

I hope they both continue. It's nice to finally have a few more IM70.3 options that are driving distance from NYC. I am a little surprised that they're so close together geographically and on the calendar.

I was in Syracuse for the race and I remember seeing an interview on TV or in the journal saying that Ironman would be back next year. The race director didn't seems to have any hesitation when saying that.

If they do it again next year, I sure hope they change the run course a bit though.

Yeah, that run did not feel or look like it was all downhill !  There were a few miles that I could swear were straight uphill.

Seems like an odd time to have a race in the Poconos. I am from that area originally, and can remember some Octobers where we had snow. It is pretty certain to be a fairly cold (mid to upper 30s) in the morning when the race starts.

Seems like it would have been better suited to late August early September.

I tend to agree it is wierd to have two races (very close in location) so close to each other in date. I'm from NYC and if in NYC next year I would do Syracuse again next year. I also would like to do Pocono's, but if they are that close in date, I probably would have to choice one over the other as I can't imagine doing both that close in time. That is why it made sense initially that Pocono may replace Syracuse (which doesn't seem the case anyways). I'm glad either way if Syracuse stays and Pocono is added, giving more options to us NYC people.

There's a date up on the Ironman website for Syracuse in 2011 - same weekend as this year, September 18, 2011.

No change to the Syracuse Ironman website though. I generally enjoyed myself, although I tell people that the middle section of the run was like running in a full parking lot in which all the cars had been left running all day. Not so pleasant. It'll be interesting to see what kind of changes they make next year.
