Subject: Difference between raod frame and cross frame...
What are the differences (if any) between a road and cross frame? I know that cross bikes tend to have cantilever or disk brakes, and sometimes have mountain bike derailleurs on them, but is there any difference between the frames at all? I have been considering getting a cross bike and am wondering if there is any reason it cannot be used for long (or short) road rides when I don't feel like riding my tri bike.

You got one of the differences, posts for Canti brakes.

Also Cross bikes will have a higher bottom bracket for more clearance and the rear triangle will be able to handle wider tires.

Cross bikes tend to be a size down from what you would ride on the road, I ride a 54 road bike and 52 cross bike.

No reason you can't ride on the road long distances on your cross bike without a problem.

I just finished my first triathlon season and used my 2005 Kona Jake the Snake (which I LOVE) and did just fine.  It's a little bit heavy but I don't think that's what was keeping me off the podium.
