It would be nearly impossible to find a virus that way.  Maybe if he was using a scanning electron microscope, but that would be a lot less efficient than running some lab test that reacts in the presence of the virus/contamination.

You and I need to watch movies together and we can finally banish all the bad science from Hollywood!

The first thing I'm going after is the battle sounds in space during any Star Wars movie...

I was quite distressed by the obvious overuse of electrical systems in the "CDC" when his power supply was so limited.  And really - they have the super high tech voice activated Star-Trek style computer system, and the back up power is all from oil drums in the basement? No solar panels?

Plus mrs gearboy (who missed the first episode) was asking me how long the sheriff was in his coma.  And then pointing out that without fluids, he would have likely died within a few days, let alone the weeks it apparently took for the zombie-pocalypse to take hold.  And don't even get us started on all the problems with medical shows!

The thing about Hollywood is that as long as it is BELIEVABLE, it will fly. Besides, its just a TV show. Take it for the entertainment that it is. This show is not about Zombies nor is it about the science, it is about the people and their interaction and how they face survival.

A little part of me dies every time I watch The Core, Armageddon, The Day After Tomorrow...heh.

Seriously though, it is fun to scrutinize, but more often than not it results in a dirty look from the SO.

OK - I have a limited amount of power.  When the power runs out, I am out of time, and the whole place will go up in a spectacular ball of flame.  I am pretty sure I am not using the high power computer and the giant video monitor that will suck down energy like nobody's business.  I am pretty sure I am conserving resources (which is not a bad idea even without the zombie-pocalypse. Which is sort of ironic, since we talk about vampire appliances which seem to suck energy even when they are turned off). Or the human element - why do I share the resources knowing that I only have a day or so of energy left - I am pretty much dooming them to go up in flames with me?

Besides, part of nerd-dom is needing more internal validation within the realm of the possible/likely to continue to suspend the disbelief.  As in "I programmed my computer virus and it will infect the alien computer that has no connection to our own and cause the mothership to die" - really?  Then why don't mac's get PC viruses?  Or what about aliens that have mastered intergalactic travel, and are vulnerable to water, but choose to come to a planet that is 75% water?  That would be like humans going to a planet we know is composed of highly toxic gases in the environment and deciding "yeah - this is a perfect place to make our settlements".

Instead of 50 gallon fuel drums (so WWII looking), you think they would have had some underground massive fuel tank.   Or a nuclear reactor.   {just thinking out loud}

Also, when they arrived at the CDC, in one of the sandbagged revetments, It looks like they have a russian made 12.7 machine gun in the pit.  Recognized the muzzle brake.  {still researching this on google}

I thought it was not a 60 cal but couldn't guess what kind.  I think the writers have a great story for Si Fi but not well thought out.

So let me get this straight....the problem that people are having with a TV show about ZOMBIES is: they couldn't have found a virus that fast, the wrong power supply at the CDC, or the use of a Soviet machine gun instead of a US machine gun....

But just so I'm clear...other than those things everyone is perfectly OK with the ZOMBIE part of the show...that, you're buying...

So the most unbelieveable part of the show about ZOMBIES (did I mention this is a TV show about ZOMBIES) is the non-use of an electron microscope or that the protagonist would have need fluids while in a coma.  But the ZOMBIE part is OK.

Did I forget to mention this is a show about the dead coming back to life as ZOMBIES!!!

I am Legend was supposed to be more like vampires... They burn in the sun light and such. You should really read the book I Am Legend , as its a total mind f___ at the end.

Actually Rick and them are the walking dead. There a beautiful panel in the comic book somewhere were he comes to the realization.

You are correct, I misthought that.....What zombie movie had the quick/fast ones?  or did I just dream this movie?  All the Romero Zombies were slow moving and stupid, so was Shaun of the Dead Zombies.  ZombieLand?

28 days/weeks later. Although they did straight up say they weren't zombies just infected with a "rage virus"

Personally I justify slow zombies as the fact that they are dying and decomposing. If you are straight infected and not injured why would the virus make you move faster.

But the slow zombies are the scariest they are just always coming never tired and is the true frightening part of the zombie.

Or that the tank had gas (or whatever it ran on). I mean...consider this: the original tank guy is driving and blasting for as long as he can. Eventually, the tank winds down. Now, he's trapped and overrun by zombies. He either starves to death in there, or shoots himself.

Hence, tank can't drive.
