Total Time = 1h 20m 5s
Overall Rank = 204/570
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 36/91
Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4:30 gassed up got some breakfast and drove to Brigantine.
Got their early enough to get a decent parking spot. Got signed in, body marked and set up my transition area. Ate a bananna and drank some gatorade before heading to the beach.
Event warmup:

I was in the fifth wave so i had plenty of time to check out the water and swim out to the first buoy and see how strong the current was.
Swim
  • 08m 40s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

Deep water start and well spread out. Got cut off a few times at start but fairly open for the most part. Even got a chance to try and draft someone going against the current. My goggles fogged up making siting a pain but I went pretty straight except for the short cross current leg.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing major. It wasa bit of a new experence to start cacthing people from the previous waves. Needed to sight more often to try and pick up those folks before I'm right on top off them.
Transition 1
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

Very long transition area. Had to run a block in bare feet to reach my bike. Took my time and was smooth and got in and out once I finally eached my rack.
What would you do differently?:

Got your rack based on number, so maybe sign up earlier next year.
Bike
  • 34m 36s
  • 11 miles
  • 19.08 mile/hr
Comments:

I'm still having issues with my front derailer, so I keep it on the big ring the whole time. Started off pretty good. Got really squirelly on some of the turns as by back wheel started sliding and I got a bit freaked out. So I was very conservative with the turns but overall I felt it was a good effort. Once again the advantage of being in the fifth wave meant I was actually passing more people than were passing me (a first). It does wonders for your confidence and proves that all the work I've been putting in is paying off.
What would you do differently?:

Practice my bike handling skills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Another long, long run through transition with my bike. Both legs you go in on the beach side and out a block and a half up the road. Took my time and missed the first time trying to rack my bike (trying to not knock over my neighbor's stuff). Got a big drink and headed out.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 32m 36s
  • 4 miles
  • 08m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Took first mile very easy as both of my calves were twinging and wanting to cramp. I took it easy until that feeling passed and slowly picked up the pace. According to my watch I slowed a bit on the last mile, but the effort felt the same and the third mile time also seemed a bit fast so I'd say the mile markers were a bit off. Good effort
What would you do differently?:

More bricks after pushing a big gear.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked back to beach then to the transition area

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Poor bike handling skills lead to a lot of lost monmuntum and cramping in the calves is slowing my run times, but overall I was very happy. I was 13:41 faster than last year and finsihed top half in all three disiplines as well as overall.

Event comments:

Well run race. Reached limit of 600 entrants a few week before the race. Lots of volunteers and fans out on the course. Weather cooperated. There is a post race festival in a park after the race which the kids enjoyed and you have the rest of the day to hit the beach or go to Atlantic City. Good race.

Thanks. Its amazing what a difference you get when you trade in the mountain bike for a road bike. Of course the indoor trainer helped quite a bit too.
