While I have little problem balancing on the rollers, I seem to only be able to do that on the hood or the drops.  But I have seriously balance issues trying to get into the aero position.  I can't seem to do it and stay up on the rollers.

Does anyone else have this problem and if so have found a work around?

Thanks,
Michael

Oh, for the days when I could juggle whilst riding a unicycle.......Frown

Second year using rollers, and I just started being able to get aero.  And it definitely isn't a great position.  Just took alot of practice. Sorry, no real tips. Good luck.

I can ride and reach for bottles and replace bottles on the rollers, but no aero for me. I can get down and go for 20 sec but that is it.
Only work around I could see is to spend more time on the rollers. I have seen youtube vids of people taking off thier shirts while riding rollers, but I imagine that takes many hours of practice.

I think it takes practice gettin in and out of the aero position while on the rollers.  I do it now without too much trouble, but was really scared of it for the longest time.

Time and practice. Make sure your wheels are really spinning when you move to get aero. You can slow down once you're stable but to get there get as much gyroscopic help as you can.

It takes time. I'm back on the rollers after a long hiatus and am having to relearn some of the skills so-to-speak. My advice would be to inch your hands down the bars until you are full aero. It might take a number of rides to get them all the way out there. Also, it can help if you don't fully inflate your tires. My tires are rated 110-120 and I put about 100 in them. not so much dancing on the barrels that way (at least for me). I also found that speed is your friend. It's easier to ride rollers at 20 mph than 17mph.  Back in the day when I was on them every day I got good enough to ride no-hands. Now if I tried that I would crash instantly. Hope to get back to that though. Good luck and don't crash!!

This thread depresses me.  Well, no, not really, but if I was going to ask the question it would go somewhere along the lines of "how long before I can let go of the door frame?".  I really need to just get over it and get on them...or sell them

It's easy - stop thinking that it is hard to ride aero or anything else on rollers.  If you can make a smooth transition on the road without weaving, you CAN also on the rollers.

Try this - put a long piece of masking tape straight ahead of the center of your rollers.  Then just act and think like you are riding down that line outside.

I don't have a ton of experience w/ aero and rollers (just got the entire setup put together last week myself) but I did manage to get this working pretty well after just a couple of attempts last week. My rollers have "bumpers" on the side which prevent the front tire from coming off the drum. This helps as when I drift too far I hit the bumper and normally can recover quite easily, even in aero.

The bumpers prevent the bike from falling off the side from minor line/balance issues. The only time I have to bail is if I severly over correct after hitting a bumper. After a couple of tries I learned to control the correction (mostly...) and didn't have to bail on the rollers for most of the ride.

Not sure if this will help, but if you don't have these bumpers you can Youtube several videos of people that added them in w/ skateboard wheels.

good luck.
