Ha, and you thought you only had to worry about sharks.  They were 4 miles off though.

There's a video in reply to the thread as well

I do believe orcas like the taste of shark as well as dolphin & sea lions. Wink Not much for humans though.

Far as I know there's been no reported Orca attacks in the wild on humans.  I do know that other large pelagics (i.e. whale sharks) are known to scatter immediately on arrival of these animals.  And they have documents orcas attacking and eating great whites.  Still, I think I'd rather freak out if I turned to breathe and saw an Orca staring at me

Things in water = get out of water.

Did you eat the dolphin heart to gain its power?

Cool! My open water club swims at the storied Avila Bay, so orcas sound like big teddy bears to me

Maybe our peeps from the PNW can chime in, but iirc from a kayaker buddy, orca pods vary greatly in aggression. Some are safe to kayak near, some are rowdy thugs. I forget the why's.

The rule we use is, concentrations of sea life = stay away. Birds, bait fish, seals? Stay on shore. The one swimmer who was bit and bled-out at Avila a few years ago was swimming with seals.
