I have been gradually increasing my running mileage and loving it. When I was much younger I ran "a bit" and had some pretty good PR times largely based on youth and exuberance.

My 5K PR is 19:19, set when I was 20 years old, on a very flat, fast course in near perfect weather conditions.

I then took almost 15 years completely off from running due to a knee injury and did not start running again until 2007.

Today it was 26 degrees, running through slush and snow and with several moderate hills to slow us down..... and I managed to run 19:25.

I should mention that I am racing as a 40 year old this year so that 5K PR is almost 20 years old. I have got to tell you that before long I think I will have a new PR and it is pretty exciting to be running as fast as my 20 year old self.

I just wanted to share my little success story.

New goal is to get sub 19....

Great story!  My favorite PRs are the ones that you don't expect (i.e., cold, slushy, and hills)

That is fantastic, especially in those conditions.  I am 49 and trying to get back under 20 minutes.  I'm pretty close, but not quite there yet.  Your post is great inspiration & motivation!

45 years old here ... I did 20:51 in my last 5K and really want 20. Really want it. So I'm jazzed you got it, and stoked to go get it.

Good job! Who says youth is wasting on the young?

I was looking at old numbers again. That 20 year old has a 40:10 10k and a 1:29:32 half marathon. By the end of 2011 I plan on having a whole new set of PRs. Good thing he (I) never ran a marathon in my youth. I get to start from scratch with that time.
