Subject: My new Speed Concept 7

Just purchased a Speed Concept 7.0 this weekend, and I was able to bring it home today!  Unfortunately, its pouring out here in Southern California (life is tough!) so I won't be able to take it on its maiden voyage until sometime next week.

Sorry about the glare, I can't seem to rub off the awesomeness of the bike:

Speed Concept

I still have to go in for a second fitting, which is why the cables and bars are long.  After about 100 miles it should be dialed in, then finalized.  The integrated bento box was taken off, it just doesn't look quite as sharp with it .  I also plan on getting some new wheels, and saddle, but theres no rush since I'm not racing for at least 2 months.  It wasn't weighed, but my take is its probably heavy!  Maybe 20-21 lbs.

Alot of research was put into this and it came down to the SC7, Slice, or P2.  They are all good bikes, but the Trek felt great and called to me.  I used to be very anti Trek during the Lance days so if they can turn me, they have a product!

For those that are curious, here is a shot of the integrated rear brake:

I just saw one when in Las Vegas last week.

I hope you have many fun and fast miles together! You'll have fun training for IMAZ.

The only negative is the wheelset; however they'll make serviceable training wheels, and none of the wheels at the pricepoint are going to be great.

Apex has great reviews,  having never rode SRAM or heard of Apex I did alot of research into this and its really just a heavier version of Rival, which is a heavier version of Force.

Let us know how it goes...

CONGRATS!

I have mine ordered and arriving for pickup on saturday! My bike store is stripping a 7.5 and putting all those components on the 7.0 for me (i LOVE the black and gray color).

Many miles of happiness to you on that beauty!

This is what the SC7 looks like with deep carbon wheels.... pretty sweet eh?   BTW it's not my bike.

Man, I love these bikes.  My LBS is a Trek store and they are awesome people to deal with too.  I hate to say it because I ride one, but Cervelo is such a pain to deal with.  Many dealers concur with that as well...too bad.  I think the new speed concept is what the P2 was a couple years ago.

Very nice, I got to play with one the other day at my LBS. The rear brake is actually pretty well designed (which is shocking) although I'm still not 100% on board with the front brake on the 9.

Very sweet ride!

I keep telling myself, "I don't need wheels, I don't need wheels".

The bike was a bday present from my wife and she was a tad bit offended that I'm swapping out the brake levers (SRAM S900) and front brake (SRAM Rival), little does she know about how we triathletes work.

More than likely I will pick up the SRAM S60 Front, S80 Back, or some other wheelset in the 1000-1600 range.  IMAZ is my A race this year, and while I plan on doing other races and a few TT's, I don't see myself being competitive enough to really worry about them right now.

I was very tempted to do this myself but outside of weight, there isn't much wrong with Apex.  This is my first SRAM bike so I'm looking forward to how the components work.  I've run Shimano, and my roadie is Campy.

I also had to order a new saddle (Cobb V-Flow Max) as I can already tell this one will not work for me.

I just got the 7.5 and did the Tour de Palm Springs century ride on it this past weekend.  It was amazingly fast - much faster than my road bike  - and very comfortable.  Except for the saddle - I had a bit of numbness for couple days and just ordered the Cobb V-Flow Max yesterday.  Congratulations - looks like a sweet ride!

Thanks, that's good to hear about the century.

I should be recieving my Cobb in about a week.  After 45 minutes on the trainer I knew the factory saddle wasn't going to work.

The nice thing about the Cobbs are the 90 day money back guarantee.  If they didn't have it I wouldn't have bought a saddle without testing it.
