Does anyone know of a lake that is good to practice OWS in the Murfreesboro area?

The safest place would probably be up at one of the public beaches on Percy Priest.

Thanks Rocket Man.  I saw another thread from last summer that discussed OWS'ing in Priest Lake.  Hopefully when it warms up there will be some group swims I can join in.  Thanks for replying and good luck this season.

I'm new to the area. Does anybody think Percy will be too cold to swim in end of April/first of May? I'm doing Knox 1/2 on 5/15 and need to get at least one OWS in.

I think there's a good chance the water will be warm enough, especially with a wet suit.

There was a group of us that did a couple open water swims in Priest last year. We met on Sunday mornings. I forget the name of the park we met in but it was off Couchville Pk. My neighbor has a bass boat. He would bring the boat out there and would keep an eye on us while we were swimming.

There is an unofficial tri club in Smyrna. They have a Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/group.php?gid=121385991229436. It looks as if they meet at Fate Sanders for open water swims. I plan to join with them when they start swimming this year. CRunner10 had posted about this group in a previous thread. I think they usually have someone out there in a kyack.

Also, I think ACME and Endurance have a combined swim at Priest in the South Nashville area. I'm thinking they used to meet on Tuesdays, but I'm not positive. I know that drive is a little further for someone in Murfreesboro, but it may work for some of you.

Hopefully others will be able to add more information.

It's great that our tri community is growing and we are starting to get more options for training groups, especially when it come to ows.

I'm fairly familiar with that location.  You turn off Couchville Pike onto Barnett Road and follow it till it dead-ends at the beach.  There's a mountain bike trail at this site that I frequent often.  Thanks for sharing the facebook link.
