I have done a handfull of sprints and a few long courses.  I want to due a half ironman in September.  I guess I am just nervous to committ to it.  I am willing ot committ to the training, eating right, etc. so, I guess thats all it takes, right??  Just looking for some feedback for a nervous athlete wanting to take this step???

I asked myself the same question. I was thinking, either Branson of Rev3 Cedar Point.  So I decided to start training as if I was defiantly going to do it.  Hopefully, it won’t fill-up before I know.

Are you willing to wait to make the decision until after the event fills up?

Where would you rank Branson in comparison to other half's?  Just curious if its an average course, harder, easier than others?

You have 15 BTer race reports to peruse HERE. But the short answer from what I've read: harder, especially the bike course.

Branson is a tough, tough TOUGH bike course, but very fun. Downhill speeds are in the 40s, uphills are in the 7's.

Harder than others.

Branson is bad! I trained there last year and it was not fun, got me in shape but I repeat it was not fun. Kansas 70.3 is easier. ha also have fun there, after 7 pm (when the buffets close) town is dead! is kinda scary hahahahaha.

I did Branson 70.3 last year, and it is a great course overall. But, and I want to make no mistake in this,

TRAIN THE FREAKING HILLS LIKE YOUR LIFE REALLY DID DEPEND UPON IT!

I would make this red and huge if I cold figure it out, but make no mistake, the bike course is tough. I went in expecting about 3000 feet of climbing based upon MapMyRide. A couple of GPS enabled competitors let me in on the secret - more like 6000+. You can do it, for sure, but train the hills.

Have you looked at any training plans?

If you can handle the first week of the plan, and you think you can work up to being able to handle the highest volume week of the plan, then you are ready.
