Pre-race routine:

This is dictated by my daughter Emily who is 10:
I woke up at 5am, ate toast and had water, and got in the car. We got lost going to the race 3 times and I was nervous we'd get there in time.
Event warmup:

Not anything but rode my bike to the transtion area, and set up my area. I met a nice women who helped me. She could tell I was nervous.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 200 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim was weird because I couldn't pass anyone. It was so crowded and lots of people were walking. Once I got out of the water I was glad to get out. I swallowed water and it got up my nose and it tasted weird. (ocean swim)
What would you do differently?:

I would go a little deeper so it would be easier to swim.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Ran up beach and across the road. I passed people running to the transition area. I had hard time getting my shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Get my shoes on faster and try faster overall.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 3 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

It was hard to pass people at times. I did pass some people. I could have gone faster.
What would you do differently?:

I would go faster sooner.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I did well!
Run
  • 00m
  • 1 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

On the first lap I passed two people. On the second lap I passed one person. I started running as fast as I could about 100 yds from the finish. I ran the finish area and people told me I finished the fastest of anyone.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster sooner.
Post race
Warm down:

Waited for results, drank water and got my medal!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not knowing how to pace myself.

Event comments:

I want to do another one.

My Mom is going to post pictures later today in an album.

Emily did great!

I'm so proud of her...she is a triathlete and came in the top 25% in her first race.  She was flying coming into the finish and was going so fast...she does that playing soccer.

This Tri was about twice as long as the one we signed up for in June but got the date mixed up and missed...so I think she was nervous. We did the bike/run distance on Thursday so she could know she could do it.

The directions on mapquest were horrible and had us going thru Boston and the road I couldn't find due to the big dig and all the construction. A kind delivery guy gave me super directions to get to Salem. In Salem I found a nice guy out for run to get me to the park area and a gas station guy helped me get the rest of the way there. I was nervous on being too late and missing it again.

The had the younger kids go at 8am and the older kids who went further at 8:30 but they started at 8:20...I had to run up the beach and just saw my 9 year old Shasha cross the finish line.

I'm a proud Mom!! I'll post some pictures in an album later today.

Great job Emily! You were so fast!-I know this because I saw you!

My daughter Elizabeth and her friend Tana did this tri too. It was Lizzy's second tri and Tana's first.
They stayed together and had a great time.

We also got totally lost going to Salem because of the big dig and mapquest. Luckily we went up the day before and stayed over. We had fun going to the Witch Museum and Dungeon.
Maybe we will see you at another Tri! Congratulations!
Patty

It was good to see you Kathy. Good luck at Timberman!

Congratulations Emily on a great race - you and your sister are an inspiration to my little girl who is almost 4. She watched a race I did last week and now can't wait for her turn to race.
She'll be very excited when I tell her about some other girls (not Mommy-sized) that did a triathlon.

Great job Mom getting everybody there for the race, that's more stressful than the event sometimes.
