Wow, had a great race today did a 3 mile race in 17:58 which is a 2:30 PR over the last time I ran a short race like this (a while ago).  I never run faster than 6:30 in practice even on half mile repeats so the 6 mpm pace was quite a suprprise and got me 2nd in AG and 7th overall.

The amazing thing is that I was one of those 10:40 mpm runners back in 2007 when I came off the couch and had no runing experience previous to that.  Just wow, not slow anymore, not blindingly fast, but I am personally stoked.

Much hope to those who are getting started in their 40's also and are not just massively fast right out of the gate.  You can improve through sweat and several years of consistent running.  Thanks BT.

Wow!  that's crazy and seems to be a true testament to taking the time and putting in the miles (took a peek at your logs).  I need to take a leaf out of your book!  Congrats!

Wow--I'm inspired! Would love to do that! I started training seriously again at 40 and 18 months later am still banging my head against the 20 minute "barrier" (for 5K) after running 17 flat at age 20.  Maybe there's hope yet.

That's awesome man!  Way to SMASH that older PR!!  Gotta love that unexpected race pace.  Nothing like competition to help fuel the fire.

Great job, my Gunnery Sergeant once told me the key to life is consistency, and you are a perfect example of that.  Keep it up!

That is a great story.

Makes me set my sights for a little faster still.  I am shooting to break 5K in 20 minutes.  For a non runner beginning at 43 a while back, its good to know that people can crank it up like that after a loooooonnnnnnng layoff.  I got a 21 min 30 sec 5K today, so I still have some work.

It's a great testament to what aerobic efficiency can gain us.  Many people are too invested in the belief that it takes speed work or intensity to get faster.

Like you, I haven't been training fast, just building in long miles.  fastest miles around 8:00, usually around 9:00.  But due to daily running I'm racing my 5ks around 6:30.  Many people would say that's impossible without training at and above LT.  But if you improve your aerobic efficiency you are also improving your LT (as measured against pace, not necessarily oxygen consumption).

Speed can and will help...just less than people tend to think, and in smaller doses than usually believed is needed.

Congrats, and thank you so much for posting this. I am resting up after a run-focused winter and it's good to have motivation to re-build the volume.

Some things can be fixed relatively quickly (a glaring swim stroke problem, aero position on the bike, etc). Seems like running progress takes place over a much longer period of time (and miles).
