The Endless Mountains Triathlon
86F / 30C
Sunny
Total Time = 3h 21m 38s
Overall Rank = 209/216
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 24/24
Pre-race routine:

Got up and had some breakfest in the hotel. Got everyone else moving to have some breakfest. Went to the tri site, a short drive from the hotel. Checked in to get race packet and chip, they wouldn't let me use my own chip. Then set up my transition area.
Event warmup:

Did some streching to get the mussles moving.
Swim
  • 18m 52s
  • 800 meters
  • 02m 22s / 100 meters
Comments:

I just stuck to my race, and took my time to finish the swim. Did breast stroke the whole distance. I felt relatively good about the swim. I didn't need to stop at all to rest. I think my time was better then the last sprint I did.
What would you do differently?:

Same as always, I really need to work on my swimming to improve it. Need to aim to get to a pool much more often, and with some regularity.
Transition 1
  • 03m 56s
Bike
  • 1h 49m 2s
  • 16.5 miles
  • 9.08 mile/hr
Comments:

I ran out of my water bottles with heed at about mile 11 while walking up this long, steap hill. I have a great down hill for a lwhile, but I had to pay for it later when climbing back up had to walk about half to three quarters of the hill.
Transition 2
  • 04m 30s
Comments:

I was not going to continue on the race to the run. As I was told that it was getting close to our check out time. However when I saw there were finisher medals, I decided to finish the race after all. Took some Gatorade to replenish fluids and also took the Endurolytes
Run
  • 1h 05m 18s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 21m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

I walked the course because I was soo tired from the ride on the hills. I ended up walking it so slowly that it took me much longer then 3 miles usually takes me. I was also trying to not dehydrate completely, as I was semi dehydrated from the bike as it was.
What would you do differently?:

I need to actually have enough left to run after the bike.
Post race
Warm down:

None, just about callapsed when done, all I wanted to do was sit down in the shade.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training on hills.

Event comments:

Again, there was not much of the post race activities left by the time I finished. I have to send an email to get my finishers medel as they didn't have any left for me. Also there was nothing left cold to drink, and only one warm bottle of water left to drink.

Course: The road had lots of hills. The first were short little climbs with shorter drops to slowly climb up high and high in increments. Then we had a great down hill that went on for a while. Problem was that we then needed to climb back up from that drop. This climb was long and steep, and I had to walk about half of the climb. (I believe this is the climb that the triathlon got its name from.) After I finally reached the top, it was the rollers back down to the park that had the transition area in. However I was so wiped from the long climb this rollers were more difficult then the earlier rollers.

Eagleville,
Subject: The Endless Mountains Triathlon
I listed my rank as 209 out of 216.  However, I was DFL of those that finished the race.  I counted the 7 DNF/DQ's that were also listed in the total numbers.
