Regarding the swim- I hope it is not like last weeks swim start in Monroe.  It was ROUGH for a sprint, especially being so early in the season.  Quite a scrum at the first turn bouy.  Just keep your head down and be on the defensive, when necessary.

PBurnett can vouch for this as well, as he and I discussed it after the R4R sprint last weekend.

Swell Frown  Part of the reason I LOVED the on the beach start for the Oly last year was, being short, I was able to dolphin dive early and swim even earlier and had very little thrashing.  The year before in the Sprint it was a mosh pit.

Well, 90+ man waves should help (sarcasm).  There were 88 guys listed in my wave (35-44) when I saw the list at packet pick up.  That is a ton of guys for just 2 AGs.  Also strange that the 45 and over group goes off ahead of the 35-44 group (so we'll catch the back end of this wave).

So- How did everyone do?  I went 1:06:?? in the sprint for 9th overall.  Not a bad race for me, not great either.  I saw Jeremy Hagerman's stats (JHag here on BT) and his swim was 5:00!!!!?????!!!!!  Sorry, but something can't be right there- would love to know what happened, or to be corrected and find out that he is in fact an UNBELIEVABLY STRONG swimmer.

I went Second in my age group (25-29), 17th overall. 1:08.27. Pretty good for me. Each race seems to be getting better. Did any one catch the pro travis lutz on the swim. it was pretty comical to see just how fast he swam. Looking at his run, 5 min miles sheesh.

Overall I was very impreseed with the way the race was organized. 3 disciplines did an amazing job. The only thing that did annoy me were the people walking on the swim, all the way out to the first turn buoy. I just don't get why anyone would do that.

They do that because they don't know how to swim and think "walking" is better than swimming... in reality, you use more effort to walk through water than you do when you swim (think displacing/pushing water out of your way instead of gliding over it).  Same concept when exiting the swim... you should swim all the way up until your hands are dragging on bottom, and then continue to swim a little more until the water depth is well below your knees

I get what their mentality was, I just don't understand why anyone would think that makes sense. I hauled butt out of the gate, and managed to make it out in front a little, then by the time I got in I could see some people that were getting close to exiting the water start walking at hip high water. They looked like they were walking in quick sand, pretty comical really. As I got in closer where my hands touched I started dolphining and a few short seconds later I was at the chute to T1. all the walking was lame.
