Subject: 1982 (!) Lake Shafer Tri

Sherman, set the WABAC machine to 1982...... 

I was in a tri in 1982 in and around lake Shafer (I still have the t-shirt!).  I was part of a team with some buddies from Purdue and I did the swim.  If I recall correctly it was in October and the water and air temps were in the 50's (no wet suits of course!).  7-Up was the sponser.  Channel 6 (from Indy) was there with their helicopter which made the swim even more unpleasant kicking up spray from the rotor. 

Any chance anyone else remembers this and possibly even has results?  I've Googled with no success.  And I have no idea why I'm thinking about this!

Sounds like a memorable event! Hopefully someone will have some more details.

I wonder if RTV6 keeps footage from that long ago?

My dad participated in that race. I'm from Monticello and I was just a kid then, but my dad was on a relay team and he did the bike segment. He said it was AWESOME!! Our tri club in Lafayette has been toying with the idea of maybe seeing if we could get a race going in Monticello again. Sure would be fun!!
