Good luck to everyone running.  I'm doing the 25k, hopefully things go as planned and it's an enjoyable experience.

I'm hoping people will post their experiences afterwards. Regardless of which distance you ran...

Enjoy the moment!

I ran the 10K today in 39:19.  I am very happy with that.  Last year I ran 40:30 and this year was just hoping to go under 40:00.  I blew that out of the water today and I was surprised how the race panned out.  I went out the first mile in 6:00 flat and then just kept steady between 6:20-6:25 the rest of the way.  The original plan was just to go out at 6:20-6:25 and try to negative split.  The first mile felt fairly comfortable which surprised even me when I saw 6:00. A 1:10PR for me at this distance.

The temps for racing were perfect but I could have done without the steady rain (which seems to happen every year).  They do have the best post race food line I have seen at a run race.  it is like a never ending line of food and drink.

I did the 25k and it went about as expected.  I wasn't going in with a firm goal necessarily, but I wanted to stay at a 9:00pace if possible....I came in at 2:24...

I did something to my right knee, hopefully nothing serious.  I ran the last 5 miles with it not operating very well and I think I caused the damage cumulatively...Within minutes of finishing and ever since I can barely bend it...

Also, I came up behind the runner who collapsed near GVSU and died....Didn't see what happened but saw the ambulance and a flurry of medical activity around someone as I ran by.....I saw on the local 6:00pm news that it was a fatality.  Sad and a little surreal to think back on it.  My thoughts are with the runner's family...

There were a few different medicals out on the course but it looked mainly to be dehydration/exhaustion...

Hopefully those that ran had a good experience.  It was unreal the spectator support throughout the course....

I did the 25k as a training run for Bayshore 1/2 (yes, you read that right 15.5 miles to train for 13.1).  3 members of my club were pacers (9:00 and 11:00) and there were 4 of us who did the 25k and 1 who did the 10k.  This was my first RiverBank and by far it is now my FAVORITE race.  I can't wait to run it as a goal race next year.  Great course!  Great organinzation!  Great energy from the volunteers and spectators!  And, just enough spectators for me.  Loved the atmosphere!

Prayers and thoughts go out to that poor runner who died on the course and the several that collapsed.  I heard about it when I got home and my husband told me about the 2 others they took off in ambulances after they collapsed near the finish line where he was spectating.

TriMike-I've not met you but were you wearing a blue and black ZOOT tri outfit to run in?  There was a guy standing next to me in Devos Place before the start that I was wondering if he was a BT'er.

Sorry, that wasn't me.  I was wearing my tried and true Steelhead 70.3 shirt.

I ran with the Gazelle's 9:00pace group until my knee went....I'm guessing your run group isn't Gazelle's since you're on the East side of the state.  I didn't see any other pacers out there, officially anyway..

Glad you liked the run, it's a big event in town...

Yes, that was my group.  Gazelle's is just the pace group sponsor.  The last race I paced I was part of the Michelob Ultra Pace team.

My mistake though.  We had the 9:30 and 11:00 group, not the 9:00 group.

I finished between the 9:00 and 9:30 group so never saw your team-mates.

I think it's cool people volunteer for pacing, it's really a big benefit to the runners to just stick with their "group" if they want to hit a time goal....There was an ongoing discussion with the 9:00 group about some pacers over the years not being able to consistently keep at their pace...

I'm assuming technology plays a part in pacing accuracy although many runners are skilled at knowing their pace by feel...

I loved pacing the Lets Move 1/2 Marathon.  I paced with Paul Ranke (sometimes posts in BT).  We had the last chance group, so 3:45 at a 17:11 mile/min pace.  I have never tried walking at that pace so we actually practiced at the Martian 1/2 and on training runs at Kensington.  It is very difficult to walk that slow and hold that pace for 13.1 miles.  The garmin helps.  Most of the people who pace are quite a bit slower than their natural race pace.  Our 11:00 group currently run consistently for race pace less than 9:00min/mile for their marathon pace. One of the 11:00 pacers just qualified for Boston in April and then ran the Kalamazoo marathon last week.   The 9:30 pacer just ran Boston in 3:40.  They know they can run this distance comfortably as a "training run" when they pace.   Garmin's make pacing easy and pacers really shouldn't pace at a pace that is close to their race pace.  A pacer responsibility is to be a moving target.  They are running consistent splits and moving along the course to finish at a certain time.  A pacer should always practice that pace prior to the race.

Our running club, out of Rochester Hills, takes pacing very seriously.  It is an honor to be asked to be a pacer and we love helping people meet their goals.   That is probably why our pacers get asked back every year.  Unfortunately, there are some races that don't really emphasize to their pacers the responsibility or give them any guidance.

The 9:30 group:

Me and Tall Joe with our YPOM (your pace or mine running club) pacers pre race:

4741 and 4751 will both be trying triathlons this year.  We may be seeing more of them on BT!!!

It was perfect running weather, I did it as a training run. Sorry to hear about the guy who died on the course. Young guy with a wife and three young kids.
