This was supposed to be my first - but something came up so I'm moving ahead 1 week and doing Boston 9/4. Still a possibility I can do the Tri-Clough.... Good luck!

Definitely wanted to. Signed up and paid for it, but something came up and can't do it. Best of luck to you!

Bump!  A year later...

I read your race report.  You said it was hilly.  HOW hilly?  Can you compare it to Webster/Danskin or Greenfield?

How friendly would it be to a rank newbie?  My husband is thinking about trying this.  He rides faster than me.  God help me, I think he runs faster than me, too, though I think his cumulative mileage in 2006 is something like 4 miles.  He'll probably drown first, though, since AFAIK he can't swim.  :-)

Tri Clough is a great race! Swim is short and sweet, relatively clear, with a short/sandy/rough run to transition.

The bike is tough...very hilly - much more than Greenfield, with a climb right out transition up to the main road, then around mile 3 a long, steady climb; halfway through a steep climb, but then an amazing downhills; mostly flat for 2nd half of course, with (rumored) new pavement which should improve bad conditions from last year.

The run is out and back; first 1 mile on pavement and over a dam (very cool vistas!); down a very steep and rocky/sandy path (most people walked), then a gentle hardpacked/sandy trail run on a narrow path, with a water station at the turnaround. Very pretty scenery - we stayed and had a picnic afterwards.

If your goal is a time PR on this course, I might say that's tough.  If you're newbie goal is to finish, it is a good course, with a few challenges.

As of last weekend, that stretch of road was STILL not paved! The RD said he will probably have to reconfigure the bike course. No way around that initial tough first hill though... :-)I'm sure he'll figure something out, and I would think this would be a very newbie friendly (although challenging) race.

Subject: Course Changes: Tri-Clough YMCA Sprint - Weare, NH
Hi, team...Just wanted to make sure y'all saw the update that the
TriClough course has changed from last year, due to some
pavement/flooding issues. I did the course Sunday, and I will say it
is (I feel) easier and faster than last year, though the bike is
close to 18 miles -not 14. The pavement is still rough in patches,
and the steep hills are replaced with one long, steady climb (which
you do twice). The run goes out on the road and then across the dam,
so no trail running down that rocky ravine (good!). The map on the
TriClough Web site is from last year.

The water is warm(er) than Ellacoya, and the beach is nice and
clean. One odd thing is seeing that most of the trees are dead up to
about 50', because the park literally was underwater for months; you
can see the line where the water crept up and swallowed everything.

Here are the official course changes:

BIKE:
Exit Park and take left onto Everett Dam Rd
Left onto Mansion
Right onto Winslow
Right onto Rt. 13
Right onto Barnard Hill Rd
Right onto Mansion
Right onto Winslow
Right onto Rt. 13
Right onto Barnard Hill Rd
Left onto Mansion
Right onto Everett Dam Rd
Right into Clough State Park

RUN:
Exit Park and take right onto Everett Dam Rd
Run out and back onto Everett Dam Rd
Take left thru gate that leads to dam
Run out and back along dam around Gazebo
Left hand turn down driveway into Park
Finish in front of beach area
