Elite 3498 Laguna Beach | Subject: RE: GoPro Camera We put a GoPro on Chris Brown from Litespeed at the recent TriSports.com Deuces Wild Triathlon Festival XTerra event. I don't where the footage went, but we picked Chris since he is a moderate to slowish swimmer but would cut through the field on the bike and run. |

The CEO of USAT recently used it to video the Duathlon Nationals, so I'm going to err on the side that's OK to record. From a pure rule standpoint, nothing prohibits it. |

Master 2073 The Redlands, FL | Subject: RE: GoPro Camera Well... Buddy finally downloaded my first test ride video last nite...It went well for be the first one...and...We were very impresed about the high quality and resolution of the video...very nice....!!!! but... I will need to do some adjustments or move the camera a little over my helmet for a better video...the real problem is that I can't see what I'm filming...other thing that I notice...When I move my head...I will need to avoid abrupt moves...in special when I turn my head to show something on my right or left or back.. I will do another test ride video tomorrow to see if I can get a good one to post here... Also We are planning to do a test video inside the pool this afternoon...swimming...we will do the great suggestion giving by dcrainmaker ...using the hard plastic that the camera case initially comes mounted on and some scuba diving weights...to keep the camera underwater... Really Cool...!!! Edited by velorider62 2011-06-16 10:57 AM |

Champion 9407 Montague Gold Mines, Nova Scotia | Subject: RE: GoPro Camera It may be worth trying what Courtney Atkinson did and mount the camera to the bike; he captured some footage from a couple of ITU races using a GoPro. This is the Mooloolaba race: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=pWvHWnIKoTQ#... I am in the process of getting one for our Provincial Training Centre; we want something we can use to grab some footage from the bike and use it for swim analysis. Shane |

Shane Cool video...Thanks for sharing that one...!!!! Yeap...I'm sure it's better to mount the camera on my bike during a Race or a Group Ride... Anyway...I was doing a solo ride... well all my rides are solo during the Week...and...I was tetsing the camera over my helmet to show the view around.... But...I will take very seriously your suggestion if We decide to use it during a Race... Thanks Shane...!!! |

Extreme Veteran 557 Woodland Hills, CA | Subject: RE: GoPro Camera Does anyone know what mount was used for that recent GoPro video of the Escape from Alcatraz swim? Sorry I don't have the link, but the camera was on his back somehow, above the water and facing toward his shoulders. |

Sorry I don't have the link, but the camera was on his back somehow, above the water and facing toward his shoulders. Here's the video here, for reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1ovNoR1X30 I just left a comment asking what the mount was. Almost looks like perhaps some sort of floaty towed behind on wetsuit string/strap. |

Maybe...He was using the head strap mount....I don't know...have to see the video...or...maybe He used the chest mount harness....off curse...keeping the mount on his back instead chest....Sounds like a good idea...!!! Master 2563 University Park, MD | Subject: RE: GoPro Camera I'm interested in Ray's suggestion to put the camera on the floor of a shallower pool, though I think I'd get in trouble with the lifeguard for doing that. Does anybody know of good ways to mount the GoPro camera underwater at the wall? The pool where I do almost all of my swimming is 9' deep at its shallowest, and so a wall mounting might work better in that setting. |

Member 266 | Subject: RE: GoPro Camera I've occasionally played around with both lane line drops and wall mounted. On the lane lines you just have to kinda MacGyver it depending on the config. For the walls though, you could do suction cups if you have tile and/or metal on the walls (concrete won't work though). Or, you can use the same mount I put on the floor and then hang two weights off the bottom, along with two lines up to the top simply hanging over the edge like some of the timing mats. The trick to anything underwater is weight - to keep the current from floating it around. You'd be surprised just how much subtle underwater current there is in the pool. |
