Good advice   I thought of doing the same thing after I struggled with my bottle of water and towel!

Any other BTers heading to Lake Geneva this weekend?  I am thinking there are a pretty good number of us

Didn't hear that one   I was so worried about finding my bike the first time, but didn't really have a problem--the lanes were really well marked at Pleasant Prairie...hope to find it the same at LG.  Otherwise, a balloon it may be!

I can't remember how well the lanes were marked, but I DO think I lost my bike and took longer in T1 than I wanted to.

BRING A FLASHLIGHT!!!  It will be dark when we get there and last year there were no lights in the transition area.

I always squirt my feet with a water bottle.

Where should we all meet???  MarkK and I are picking up our packets in the morning also so we probably won't have much time before the race.  I'm doing the Oly and I think so is Coredump,  and Hiccup and TuPuppy are doign the sprint right? Esmies, and Alicia, which one are you doing?

Let's all hook up after the race.  Three BTers are doing the 1/2 so far...Whizzer and MUL98 and MarkK.  We could bring them across the finish line in style (As we sit in the sun and bask in being DONE while they are all still out there sweating Franks Killer Hill!)

I'm gonna be there.

Doing my packet pickup in the AM as well.  Beats having to find a place to stay overnight, and someone to watch my animals.  At 4am it's less than an hour drive from my house.

I definitely second the flashlight.  A headlamp would be a better idea, so you have your hands free.  The first wave starts at sunrise ( or a little after, if it's like last years ), so you'll be doing transition setup in the dark.  There's no big lights to help out, so it's gonna be dark.

As I recall, it's open racking, so the balloon idea is decent one.  That or use a bright towel.  Tie the balloon to the rack though, not to your bike.

Something I find that helps is to walk from swim exit into the transition area to my bike a few times before the race.  That way you can work on semi-autopilot when you come out of the water.

I'm open to meeting up wherever, but you'll find me near the food afterwards.

I will be doing the Olympic. Thanks for the advice on the flashlight!! I would have never thought of that one!!!

I have a couple of friends coming in from New York to do it with me. All the families will be there so we are making a weekend (expensive) of it. I will try to stop by your meeting area.

Good luck!!

Second Coredump's idea to walk from the swim in to transition

Also, I'm going to bring emergency food.  Last year when I finished the 1/2 there wasn't much there.  I don't know if all of the Sprint and Oly distance racers got it, or maybe there just wasn't much. There are several restaurants within easy walking distance.  Maybe we could all go have an after race celebration!  Anyone interested bring some money..last year we went to a bar that was very casual, just burgers and chicken sandwiches and that, and there were LOTS of racers in there in their race clothes.

In the meantime, I can't think of where to meet.  I don't really remember any landmarks or anything.  I'll want to be near the finish to see Mark and the other BTer's come in from the 1/2 for sure!

Coredump you've done this one, do you remember anyplace?

good suggestion on the flashlight - hadn't thought of that

for the record - i'm nervous as hell for the 1st half - haven't felt this way since the first race I did. of course the fact that work is completely screwing up my taper doesn't help things.

Don't sweat work.  Control the things you can control, and roll with the things you can't.

Work is hellish for many of us right now ( myself included ).

Saturday will be a great day for a race.

As to where to meet, there's a gazebo near the finish, where the food was last year.  I suggest somewhere in the vicinity of that ( near food, near the finish, can't beat it! ) to meet up after the race and cheer on the 1/2 victims champions as they come in.

Don't be afraid of the hill on the run.  And there's nothing wrong with walking it, I think 90% of the people I saw were walking it last year.  It's mostly flat for the rest of it, and the run through the observatory area was pretty nice.

One note on the bike course, towards the end, there's a really nice long fast downhill.  At the bottom is a T intersection where you have to turn, so make sure you're not going too fast down it.  They had lots of signs and people warning you, but it's easy to get carried away ( I think I hit 45 on it last year, oops! ).

MUL98 - 2005-09-07 8:02 PM of course the fact that work is completely screwing up my taper doesn't help things.

Like Chris said, try not to sweat it.  I know it's scary not to follow your plan to the letter in these last few days, but the important part - all the work and the training - is already done.  I think the most important thing about a taper is that you actually DO one (as opposed to training hard up until the day before the race).

Regarding "Frank's Killer Hill" I would say just walk it and don't worry.  I know a guy - awesome FOPer- who ran it last year and said he got passed by a  SPEED WALKER!  I think you actually save time by walking...you get up just as fast and conserve energy.  The area through the observatory IS really nice.

The gazebo - food and finish line WOOHOO! - sounds like an excellent plan.  Who will be there?????

I'll be there!!!  I love the idea of going somewhere after, Cindy--sounds great to me

Just found out that the family members that were planning on coming are no longer coming.  So looks like I'll be coming alone--any advice?  I had my husband hold a lot of my stuff the last one.  Do I just leave it near the swim start?

I'll be there for the sprint.

Maybe someone can tie a balloon to themselves so we all know who we're looking for.

Good luck to anyone doing the longer distances.

Tie a balloon to us!  Too funny!  Seriously though--I am wondering how we will all recognize each other--I wish we had our bib numbers to tell each other.  Can't wait to meet everyone!  Sure does seem like there are lots of us!

Heather, what "stuff" are you bringing?  I'm going to bring a change of clothes...and soap I'll wash in the lake haha...but I will probably leave it in the van and walk to it.  Or maybe in my transition bag, but I hate to have that much stuff in transition.

I will bring my BT shirt to throw on over my race clothes.  Anyone else with a t-shirt maybe could do the same???

Hey Cindy
I'll just have clothes over my suit stuff (since I don't have a wetsuit) so I am thinking I can just throw it somewhere near the swim start and pick it up after the race.
I don't have a BT t-shirt, so I'll let people know what I am wearing tomorrow, after I pack
