Subject: Question: Back to back events?

Alright so I'm debating doing two events in one weekend. Good idea or bad?

Already signed up for a sprint du 7/7/11 (Tri Indy): 2mi run/20k bike/5k run

Considering a triathlon the day before (Cicero Triathlon): .2mi swim/9.5mi bike/5k run

I wanted the Du to be one of my A races this year

Thoughts? Will my performance suffer in the second race?

Also, just throwing it out there but I just got back from a 1600mile bike tour that I was doing century rides back to back with no issues.

Thanks for any input

Without logs, kinda hard to say so take this for what it's worth.  Last year I did a Saturday International & Sunday Super Sprint, same location with the Saturday race being 2 laps of the course.  I had so much fun with that challenge that I'm doing the same again in 2 weeks.  Actually had faster splits on Sunday.

If you are in decent enough shape, which you say you've done 1600 miles of biking and back to back centuries, I'd say go for it.

Will your A race Du on Sunday suffer? Maybe the first 2 minutes until you warm up and get back into race mode and hammer it.  If it were me, I'd consider both to be my "A" race weekend, not focus on one or the other.

Good luck.  I'm guessing though that you meant 8/7/11.

Thanks for the advice. I'm leaning towards both. Seems pretty doable since they're both relatively short races.

and yeah I meant 8/7/11.

If the Du is your A race this year, the forget doing a race the day before. If you would've said, it's just another race, then yes, I would say, have fun and enjoy it.

Back to back events are a blast. I just did Lord of the Fly here in NH a few weekends back. TT Fri, Long tri Sat and Short tri Sun. We've also done races where we've had running races Fri evening and then another race Sat. morning.

You need to set your expectations accordingly though.

Sure it's doable. If you have been doing back to back centuries on the bike it should be no problem. Those are fairly short distances. Have fun with it and just take what the day gives you.

(Of course this is advise from someone who is signed up for Pikes Peak Ascent/Marathon double)

Good Luck

I've raced on back to back days twice this year:

In May: Sat HIM/Sun Sprint.  My run suffered on the Sprint.

Last Weekend: Sat OLY/Sun Sprint.  No significant effects.

Of course, everyone is different.
