Negative splits are the way to go.  Very happy with my time and came in exactly on my 7:00/mile pace somehow.  biggrin  Got to spend some time with Jon and his family, and Reece.  Jon, congrats on your first marathon!  That is next on my list.  Reece, had a blast watching the runners come across the finish line with you.

Great to see all of you yesterday.  It makes race day so much more fun when you know people.  Sounds like everyone had a pretty solid day.  I ended up running pretty much the exact race I planned on, from a few posts above.  I started with the 3:50 group, left them behind after the hill.  Ran with a guy from SE Kansas for the next 13 miles or so.  Just about caught the 3:45 pace group at the end.  Only 6 seconds off my goal of 3:45.  I partially blame the Garmin as it said I ran 26.5.  I was pacing right at 8:29 according to the watch.  Oh well.

Nice work guys- those are great times!  I was able to get it at an easy pace.  I paced a friend doing the marathon to an 8:07 pace until the split (he was on his own from there) and then found the RR at mile 11 for a 5 or so minute "break".  When I got on the road again, I ran into another friend and we cruised in together- finished at 1:50 with a little pain, but nothing too bad.

Now time to rehab that tendon-so off the the gym!

Nice races all around.  1:43 and change for me.  I was pretty happy with the result, although I bonked harder than I ever have before at mile 12.  That final turn and seeing how far the line was almost killed me... But definitely doing it again!  Maybe the full next year! Great race, great volunteers.

Sounds like everyone had a good race!  I enjoyed it all except mile 20ish going uphill for 2.5 miles.  That pretty much zapped me.  I have a race review link on my blog if anyone wants to fill a survey out.  Publishing results Wednesday.

Thanks Lisa. I assume you, or Glenda The good witch, will be back in Lawrence in June?

OH YES I will! My super secret goal is to be one of those people who does Kansas 70.3 every year - forever. Can't break my streak now

Yooooz Guyz rocked it!  Wow, a 3:46 for your first Mary, a 7:00 mile pace for a 1/2M, your first time at that distance too!  In general, running sub 1;50 for your first 1/2M and running under 4 hours for your first full 26.2 is just awesome!  I didn't hit a wall in this race but I did hit a little fence, but still a PR.  Looking forward to the next one.  Hey, next year Lisa will run with us and we can all wear tutu's, that seemed to be popular at this race.

Is it possible to train and do a full marathon in one year. The reason why I ask is Im planning on doing the KC Marathon next year. Right now I run 5K distance for my long runs many I get 4 miles out some times.

Yes you can do it in one year.  There's some 20 week training plans out there but what you want to do is be up to a good running volume before you start that plan.  If you start now you'll be in great shape by next spring/summer when you start the plan for the K.C. marathon.  But keep in mind an October marathon means running in some warm weather.

Go this this site, there are some free training plans there.  I sort of followed his intermediate II plan for my marathon last April.

Good luck and welcome to BT!

I was able to run the KC marathon this year on a truncated training time frame.  Ran the North Face Marathon August 27 and then "recovered" and "trained" for KC 6 weeks later.  1 year shouldn't be a problem to build up properly.

But, I also trained for two 70.3 races and some olympics and some half marathons throughout the year... so take my advice with a grain of salt.  I had a different base to work with.

Find a training plan that coincides with your life/works schedule (well, as good as you can), and do the workouts.  Consistency is critical.  I will see you there next year for the full, my first as well.
