Sunny
Total Time = 1h 25m 41s
Overall Rank = 173/347
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 12/26
Pre-race routine:

special K with blueberries, cinnamon pop-tarts! got to the site late. no open spaces on wood racks for bike. put bike in row between racks hoping it would still be there in T1. It was out of the way and caused no harm/ hindrance to nearby setups (i confirmed this after the race with the nearby competitors)
Event warmup:

quick jogging from locker room to transition to pool to outside to other places looking for family and making sure they were all right since it was quite cold and wife and daughter were sick to begin with.
~25m in the pool
Swim
  • 08m 34s
  • 328 yards
  • 02m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

was quite pleased. goal was to make it out of the water and not be drained. seeded self correctly relative to those around me since i passed about as many people as passed me. last 3 turns off wall under ropes were traffic jams so could not get a good push.
What would you do differently?:

first time in any water for about 2 months due to pool/ water access and finances
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

took long since it was cold and decided to go with long sleeves. long sleeves over wet body takes time.
cheap sunglasses immediately fogged completely so those were ditched.
socks/ shoes on went on easily.
race belt on and i was off
What would you do differently?:

tri suit or singlet to wear while swimming would definately increase speed. Not many more options here.
Bike
  • 47m 56s
  • 14.5 miles
  • 18.15 mile/hr
Comments:

hybrid bike with somewhat knobby tires and shoes clipped in. hands were a little cold. only 3 people passed me by (2 tri bikes and a newer Felt road bike with clip ons). turn around was tight and some of the turns were rough. south farms smell was bad at times. the headwind on the way back was a pain.
What would you do differently?:

i think i did pretty good for a hybrid bike. maybe could have pushed a little harder, but no complaints, especially with the wind
Transition 2
  • 00m 50s
Comments:

jumped off bike, ran through T2 with shoes on. kicked off shoes, put on running shoes with yanks, and off i went.
very pleased with this time
Run
  • 26m 6s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

this is the fastest run i have ever had at this distance by ~45 secsonds including stand alone races and training.
nice touch as they yell out your name as your coming to the finish chute
What would you do differently?:

potentially start my finishing kick a little bit earlier
Post race
Warm down:

finding family

What limited your ability to perform faster:

0 swimming training ~2.5 months prior

Event comments:

relatively inexpensive and good short course on college campus. wide range of competitors. no complaints
