This is something I REALLY need to work at during the off-season!
I've been plodding along with the basics (squats, planks & crunches...) but I'd love to hear some suggestions & favorites...?

(help please...) Frown

I like the TRX.  I laughed when my wife first bought it...but have since been convinced of it's value.

I have a trx and love it. You'd get a great workout for sure. Not sure I'd classify it as essential though. Core is really easy to work with no equipment. This site even has some really good routines.

For core: planks of every variation, compound lifting movements (specifically deads and squats), pilates, yoga

Glutes: squats and deads, also like plyometrics

I always find it hard to explain.  It's an apparatus (sp?).  Better off going here:  http://www.trxtraining.com/

Ah yes, plyometrics for sure.  Then come back and swear at the person who recommended it.  lol  No, seriously, that will really be great, and even probably the best to even help your tri activities a tiny bit according to some new studies out there.

It is just a suspention training set of straps.  So the strength training is really all your body weight, plus stabilization.  You vary the angles you work at to vary the intensity.  What is really nice is I hook mine up out on my patio and I get to workout outdoors.

I do plyo in the privacy of my own home.  No one needs to see how goofy and uncoordinated I am.  LOL.

lol!!
that would be the same situation i'd be in...
i got sorta lucky though. a friend of a friend is opening a health clinic close to where i work, so as part of a friends & family offer i'm getting 2 free sessions with a personal trainer
(which clearly... i BADLY need!)

i've been meandering about with my stability ball doing a bit of a routine... but i just want to actually address my weaknesses (which = my core)

oddly... or maybe NOT so oddly? i'm wondering if there are any youtube-able pyrometric exercises to check out...
(reputable videos/sources, i'd hope!)

thanks for the info & suggestions! nice to know i'm not the only one who has to make a conscious effort to work at this!

Search the article database here for core strength.  I found an awesome program on this site.  All of it is on the Fitball and floor.  Already making a difference in my body.....

This is something I need to work on too.  My p.t. told me over-developed quads/weak glutes and hamstrings are what has been causing some ongoing problems in my left leg.  I was looking for some variety from the exercises my physical therapist had me doing and found the article below gave me some alternatives. There are some good links to youtube demos at the bottom of the page although a few of them are dead links.
