Are we so dedicated to fitness that we're disturbing other people's lives?

Maybe the lives of people who have to get into their cars and get breakfast at McDonalds, and can't because of streets blocked off. Some states and cities are much more health oriented than others. We have had a complete ban on smoking in public places, even outside, and we can go months here without ever smelling a cigarette...always a rude awakening when traveling out East or especially overseas....

There must be more to this story than meets the eye.  What kind of city would Grapevine be to ban triathlons indiscirmantely?!?  Did they also ban running races, bicycle races and swimming competitions also? How about football, baseball, hockey and tiddly winks?   It seems to me tha t one of the functions of the city fathers is to ensure that its citizens benefit from good healthy practices and triathlons are pretty damned healthy.  Of course I can understand if Grapevine were a very small city and there was a triathlon every weekend.  In that case, all the MacDonald sucking, SUV driving, fat assed Grapeviners would be greatly inconvenienced by all these triathlons.  Not to mention the horror of seeing all those slim trim triathletes prancing and cycling about their fair city, which could only serve to remind them of their own failings.

I am most disappointed in Grapevine since I will always claim Texas as my legal address... and to think, I used to shop at their mall. NEVERMORE!!!

trifind.com has two races listed in Grapvine this year, both in July. One is on a Saturday and one is on a Sunday.

Some communities are weird and selfish like that.  Our company is one of the largest in the town (2000 employees).  Many people have to drive through a local, residential road to get to work.  The residence there at one point was trying to close off the road as "private" coz they think the employees of our company are disturbing them and jamming traffic when we coming to and leaving work.  They actually tried to sue us.  Our laywers remined them that a road with a double yellow line is a public road and residence have no right to "close" it, and that our company, being the largest in town, pays the most tax and have every right to use the road.

Even the Boston did not object closing part of the busiest area (with interstate access) in the middle of the city for the Boston Triathlon.

Well, Bostonians are cool that way. On those days, at least we know there's a reason for sitting in traffic. Most of the time you'll sit in traffic for 2 hours, then all of the sudden your cruising at 80.
