Subject: Moving to Philadelphia area

Hey all! I'm moving to the Philly area from the west coast next week.  I'm taking a job at Villanova University and looking forward to living near a "real" city.  I live in a pretty rural part of Washington/Idaho now and was curious about tri clubs, swim/bike/run groups, etc and looking to make new connections in the Philly tri community.  Let me know your thoughts/ideas.

thanks!

Welcome. This is a very friendly triathlon and running region. I live in the city by the Art Museum and once you're settled at Villanova suggest you take a look at some of the running clubs and biking clubs in the area. It's a great way to meet people and learn your way around.

Philly Runners (the one I am in), Bryn Mawr Running Club, Fairmount Runners: all have scheduled group runs.

Philadelphia Triathlon (Philly Tri), T3 Triathlon, Cadence Bike: Have training, group discounts,  and many other activities.

Bike Club of Philadelphia: scheduled group rides

Do you know if you are planning to live in the city or the 'burbs? Lots of great places to bike & run in the Villanova area. If you're going to live in/near Villanova, the nearest tri club is probably the High Road multisport club: http://www.hrcmultisport.com/

If you end up in/near Springfield (Delaware County), Delaware County Road Runners Club is fairly active, with runs in the evenings and weekend mornings.  Mainly running, but a nice group of folks, catering to all levels of running.

[hijack on] Hey tcj103 - I'm just down the road from you in Wallingford... Do you run with the Delco road runners or ride with the DVBC (Delaware Valley Bike Club)? I'm always looking for local training partners - let me know if you're interested! Where do you swim? I swim at the Healthplex. I see you're in Springfield, and wondered if you swim/workout there, too. [/hijack]

Thanks everyone for the feedback.  Seems likes lots of options!  Once the family gets out here and settled, I'll get back on some normal training.  Not sure where we're going to put down.  Nova's been good enough to put me up until the end of the year, so once January rolls around we'll need to make decisions on where to locate.  Thanks again!

Yessir.  I am moving to Philly from that area.  Registered last year before this job opportunity came up.  I told them during the interview that if they don't give me a week off at the end of june to do IMCDA that the talks didn't need to go any further.  HA!
