Where can I learn more about any of the training clubs that might be near me (West 42nd Street on the Hudson River)? I'm an athlete but never done a full tri before, and would love to meet people nearby for weekly workouts - running, biking, swimming. I've got 'til July 8 to get myself in tri shape and could use all the help I can get

For starters, just look for the websites of the various clubs/teams mentioned here and reach out to them. Figure out what kind of commitment they’re looking for
(time and money
) and whether that fits with what you want. Some clubs are very structured and others are much less so. Make sure you find one that suits you. Also, make sure you like the team uniform, since you’ll be forced to wear it to every local event for the rest of your life….
Honestly, and this is just my opinion, if you’re already athletic, as long as your goals aren’t too lofty
(like, “I want to win my age group”
), you can find all the information you need to train and prepare for your first race just by frequenting this site, reading the forums and the race reports and asking tons of questions.
Other than a couple of training partners I run and bike with occasionally, I have always trained almost exclusively by myself, even when I started out. The team/club I’m in is mostly for social events and so that I can have more people cheering for me at local races.
Good luck! Looks like you'll be racing the NYC tri, right? See you there.
