My LBS hooked me up with a set of tires for a SS/Fixie and now I have a winter project to work on.

I am contemplating the Raleigh/Twin 6 colaboration frame

All City Nature Boy (Named after one and only Nature Boy Rick Flair!!!!!!!) Woooooooooooooo

and am open to any other suggestions.

Just need frame/fork and would prefer fender mounts minimum and racks would be helpful.  Oh and brakes are a must - sorry I am not a hipster

When I once looked at this, I learned that a track frame is NOT a SS / Fixie for road riding. The geometry is way different and, although they look cool, make terrible everyday riding bikes.

The twin 6 has a carbon fork and the all city has a steel one. Whichever you prefer for commuting. Othe rthan that I'm sure you'd be happy with either.  You know buying individual pieces will run you wayyyy more, yes?

If you're into steel CX you could also check out the Surly Cross-check, too. When you look around you'll see a lot of steel frames that are identical except for the branding.

BTW Nashbar has some nice Axiom racks for sale right now. Enjoy your project.

That is why I think I am leaning towards the SS Cross Frames that are out there now.  I have a 20 mile commute that I am not interested in doing track style!

The Surly frames are versatile, but the tubeset is springy. I never liked racing on my cross check, but it does make a nice touring set up. I have it 3x9 speed geared w/ racks and fenders. Kind of an SUV of bikes.

I vote for Surly - either a Steamroller or Crosscheck.

I LOVE my crosscheck - steel rides so nicely. The Steamroller is their true SS/Fixie option, but the Crosscheck is so dang versatile - the frame is built to take panniers on the front and rear. I use it for CX, but plan to use it for touring in the future and hopefully as a commuter. And the Surly framesets are pretty reasonably priced.

But....I gotta admit that Nature Boy is purrrrty.

I ride a fixie cross check. Love it. It's my round town commuter. Surlys provide a lotta bang for your buck.

Forgot to update - Nature Boy has been ordered - I tried getting the limited edition one but they were sold out.

So I have the wheelset, brakes, stem, bars (salsa woodchippers), seat post all set.

Now I just need to find a cool sturdy crankset, decide if a Brooks is going on the seatpost, and what brake hoods I am going to use.

Will post pictures when she is all built up in a month or so - no rush on this one!

You mean which Brooks, right?

Subject: RE: SS/Fixie Frame

keep us posted on the build.  Should do a little walk through like a good friend (rick) Daremo used to do back in the day.

Good luck.
