Hi. I decided to stop lurking and become part of this nice community. I'm doing my first tri this Sat. Thanks for all the great advice. I found this site a few months ago and the trainging tips and encouragement to group members is great.

Thanks. The post race report will be up on Monday.

Any tips for T1? It is the only element that I haven't practiced.

Welcome to BT Sparky.  T1 advice: practice, practice, practice.  T2 is the more difficult of the two and needs practiced more often.

Looking forward to hearing about your first race.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I did it! I was feeling under the weather, up much of the night with a very dry cough, and had (uh) female issues which made race day less pleasant then it could have been. But I did it. Transitions were painfully slow and I used them for a little recovery between events and bathroom breaks. Biking was far less than my normal capacity. My breathing was pretty shallow because of my cold and I had to use my asthma inhaler a couple of times on the bike and run. I felt pretty good throughout the tri considering the cold because I was taking it really easy. I was just pleased that I finished 345/390. http://www.lmsports.com/osprey05.htm

I did the event with a friend and he feels I sorely underhydrated and did not take in enough calories. Something to consider for my next event.

It was really great! As you can see from my other post my health was less than optimum, but the race experience was great. The people were really nice, the volunteers were awesome, and we had incredible weather.

I finished at 2:27. 660m swim, 18.6 mile bike, and 4.5 mile run. Ko'Olina Tri in Hawaii. Great experience and the BT has been a great tool for Blogging and learning. Keep up the good work.

actually i did better than i thought. race results postings show i finished overall 211 / 324 in 2:10:42.7. I hadn't taken into account that my age group 40-44 started 17 minutes after the first elite wave start........so the clock at the finish line showing 2:27:42 included my 17 minute wait to start...... My first event, so I'm still LEARNING. Aloha and Mahalo for the reply,
