probably a race with some shorter distances to give the entrants a taste of tri.  Just a guess on my part, I haven't seen one in my area.

From what I have seen, the try a tri's are sprint triathlon's of various distances that are generally set up to include beginners as well as more advanced triathletes. I will be doing my first tri in a Try the Tri in Danbury CT in June. I figure they will be geared with an understanding of first timers, separate swim starts, more help, etc. Well, I hope!

A great resource is active.com, you can search for all types of races by state.

This link should be to their page to search for triathlons, put in your state and search away.

Generally "Try A Tri" is in the race name, but I did not see any for WA. I did see several sprint tri's and one called, My First Triathlon, on July 11 in Lake Chelan, WA. Check out the active.com website for more.

Generally the Try-a-Tri's are about half the distance of your average Sprint distance triathlon - 375m swim/10km bike/2.5km run. There is some variation but generally around this ball park. It makes a great entry for people trying triathlons for the first time or as a warm up to a sprint season. Regarding the name, I know some of the race coordinators around here have moved to legitimize them by calling them "Supersprints".
