I finally decided the time has come to sign up for my first half-ironman. I have been doing Olympic distance for about 5 years, and love it, yet feel like I am totally crazy for thinking I can do this. So hopefully with the help of this site, and my body willing, I will be ready when race day comes!!

Welcome to BT!!

You will find lots of information and support here. Have you checked out the Ironman distance boards...lots of 1/2 IM people there.

Congrats on taking the plunge and moving up to a longer race. Great goal and lots of fun training for you!

5 years of Olympic distance racing, and you think you are crazy for attempting the 1/2? In that case, we have a lot of lunatics on BT ;-). Which one are you aiming for? Welcome!

How are the hills in Racine? I heard Ironman WI is very hilly. I am considering a HIM, but I'm in the Louisville, KY area. I don't have any of them near me. Racine is about as close as any of them.

I actually just moved to the area. Living just outside of Madison, great rolling hills here. Im sure Racine is similar. Coming from North Dakota, so seeing hills is a blessing!! Any HIM's in Ohio?? I would think that'd be closer?

I went back to trifinder.com and did a specific search for Ohio and HIMs. I found one just outside Cincy... only 2 1/2 hours from here. I just started tris this summer. I did a sprint. I planned on doing an Olympic next season, but a HIM is my goal. I've been a lifelong runner, a former Orienteerer and I've been doing Army endurance events (road marching mostly). I finally got a bike and hopefully will be getting a trainer so I can work on increasing cadence... decisions decisions.
