This July I'm going to do a sprint in Unity Me. "Lake Winnecook Lake Sprint"; the swim distance is .5 miles or 880 yards. In May the "Iron Bear Triathlon" takes place. This is a sprint that is USAT sanctioned and has a swim distance of .3 or 525yards. I went to the USAT site and couldn't find an official distance for a sprint and It seems that the distances vary somewhat from race to race. Is there a standard. -joe

I understand your confusion joe. I'm doing 3 sprint tri's myself this year two have a swim distance of 1/4 mile and one has a distance of 1/2 mile. The bike legs are anything between 10 and 15 miles and the runs are about three. So I'm just a s confused as you are.

Nothing official--but unofficially, if the bike is under 10 and the run is under 2, (I think) some call it a mini-sprint. I've seen the swim range so broadly that I'm not sure that it is an indicator...

I have always considered most races that are shorter then an Olympic distance race a sprint.
