Overall Rank = 31/308

Age Group Rank = 2/39
Pre-race routine:

Had some coffee and a homemade energy bar that I made the other day. YUMMM!! Bob and I got Richard (the 10-year-old) up and he went with us to the race.
Event warmup:

Got Richard set up with the volunteers (he LOVES his Frosty the Snowman hat!) and got my chip and jingle bells in order on my shoe. Did several warmup runs and several potty stop, of course.
Run

Comments:

Did great for the first mile and a half. At the turnaround, I was keeping pace with a woman who always passes me in the first mile and i never see her again. I was loving this. Then all he!! broke loose. A jingle bell fell off my shoe, and I felt the laces loosen. Then the other. Since the laces were double-knotted, that only meant one thing. The jingle bells actually tore through my shoelaces. OMG! My shoe was falling off, and more importantly, the chip was falling off! I had to stop and try to retie in a knot this tiny stub of a shoelace. Finally I got it, but when I stood up, I was VERY out of breath, and now my shoe was tied with two less holes laced. OMG!! I kept going, but I was seeing all kinds of people passing me that never passed me, and I was having trouble keeping my shoe on my foot. I hit the 2-mile mark in 14:4something and was STILL out of breath! Still slowing down I just COULDN'T catch my breath. Finally got to the finish line. (Thank goodness THAT was over!) Then I had to try to UNTIE that knot I had put in my shoe to get the chip off!
What would you do differently?:

NEVER, EVER, EVER wear jingle bells again!!
Post race
Warm down:

Jogged with Gary and Ellen ~1 1/2 miles around the corporate park. Then had pancakes with Bob and Richard (IHOP was a sponsor, so everyone got pancakes!!!)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

JINGLE BELLS!

Event comments:

I love this race. Lots of amenities, lots of friends there, and their trophies are ALWAYS cool! This year they were pewter mugs with the JBJ logo on them.

That's the first time I've EVER heard of anyone getting two flat tires in a 5K.  OMG, I'm sorry, but that's really kinda...forget it.  That's still a great run, given the circumstances.    The pancakes I'm sure made up for it.

Y'know maramaddy, I've never heard it put quite so eloquently, but YES, they WERE killer Jingle Bells.  You're hilarious!

Anyway, finally got results for overall and age group #s.  Don't know how to put a picture in this box like I see everyone else do, but here's the link to my finish line photo.  http://www.splitsecondtiming.com/images/jbj/pages/DSC_0120.htm
