Subject: Hey everyone.....first post.
Hey everyone,

I have been lurking for a little while here and just thought I would pop in and say hey. I am just now getting back into working out(~6weeks ago) and am really enjoying it. I am 32 years old and weight around 230lbs(started at 245#). Over the past six weeks I have worked out with a personal trainer at my gym two times a week and I am doing anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour of cardio by myself 4-7 days a week. Ultimately I'm trying to regain strength and lose weight while increasing my endurance level. My gym is having a group triathalon training group starting in January and running through the first of March. Then they are going to have an indoor triathalon in March. I was talking to my trainer this afternoon and think that I am going to sign up for it and see how well I can do with it. I was thinking this would be a good way to hopefully increase my cardio workouts when working out with others and then maybe in March I will be up for finishing the triathalon.

Anyway I just wanted to pop in and say "hey". I'm sure I'll have a bunch of questions for everyone in the future. :D

That's great weightloss so far.  That indoor tri will offer a great venue to get your feet wet-especially if you're in a colder climate.  Plus it will offer a great goal.

Sounds like you are on your way.  You mention that you are doing cardio 4-7 times per week, be careful to give yourself time off  to recover ... and reap the benefits of the work out. I used to think that it was the act of exercising that increased your muscle mass + fitness gains only to find out that happens during the next day or so as your body recovers and 'repairs' itself.

Memphis in May has a pretty good triathlon the weekend of May 21st (I believe) ... it is an Olympic distance (1.5k swim/40k bike/10k run) and therefore pretty long distances for your first race, but you also have 5 months to get there.

The indoor tri is a perfect way to get started while providing for a relatively near term goal to work towards. Check out www.trifind.com and www.active.com to see if you can locate some other races to flesh out your summer race schedule.

Also, check out the "Training Log" function above ... a perfect way to track your training and to gauge your progress.
