I' looking at this race on April 29 as my first one. Has anyone done this one before?

My biggest question is about water temp. and wetsuits. Do others use them or not for this race? I'm not worried about my time (swim speed or time in transition) for now, but I am thinking about comfort (I don't want to freeze on the swim). I've never been in a Georgia lake in April (except for capsizing a sailboat) to swim.

Thanks in advance.

Tim

I tried to make this my first last year.  I say "tried" because it was rained out.  The directors still "let" us to the 5k portion...in the rain.  It was fun.  From what some others said, it was rained out in 2004 as well.

Wetsuits will probably be allowed; most seemed ready to use them.  I was going to tough it out, though.

I was wondering the same thing so I looked at the race day photos from 2004, which was held on 5/1, and I didn't see any wetsuits in the first few pages.

As I recalled from previous discussions -- someone said that the water was wetsuit sactioned but the racers were not allowed to use them. I was also there last year and ran the wet 5K. I bring the wetsuit along -- the water temp can be cold in April. This one should be easy -- only one tough hill in the bike leg. Run fairly easy.......

I'm in - signed up the other day. This was supposed to be my first tri (ever) last year; with the rain-out in 2005, I bailed on the drenched 5K and now I feel the need to conquer this tri this year.

OK, so who 's racing?

I'm in, abear2 is in. The tribluesky.com website suggests that wetsuits won't be needed for any of the races, obviously written before SGI was added, and I know water temperatures increase rapidly in April. We were in Lake Peachtree in wetsuits last week, and the water leaking in was shockingly cold, but I think it will be fine on April 29.

Looks like rain has moved out to Sunday now; Saturday should be fine...although current forecast is for 54F at 8:00A Saturday morning.  That should make 70F water feel pretty comfortable.

Drove over to Tanner at lunch.  Small, compact park.  Looks like a beach start in a fairly small lake; transition is close by.  Slight hills for half mile or so from the transition area to the main road, turn right...rolling hills for first half, a few good hills in the middle but they are relatively low grade, flat to downhill last couple of miles.  Watch for sharp turns - there are several.  Didn't check out the run.

Best of luck to all tomorrow.

The run is pretty flat .... was planning for a quick slow run when I pick up my race package today but I ate too much.... cancelled that thought. Choose to rest instead. See all of you tomorrow morning ....
