Subject: Swimming with earplugs
Ok, I get water in my ears when I swim and it really irritates me and causes me to lose my form. I tried some of those "moldable" ear plugs, but they still let water in. For those of you who wear them, can you tell me what kind you wear and why. Also, if you anyone has any tips on how to keep the water out in general...please tell me.

I used to wear these little purple earplugs that I got from walmart that I worked, they stuck out of my ears and you HAVE to remember to TWIST when you take them out but they work

They kinda looked like that on the end.

I use Mack's for my open water swims. http://store.yahoo.com/earplugstore/macaqblocswi.html

Keeps me from being dizzy on the way to T1. I just have to make sure they are in correctly. I pull up on my ear and twist them in.

This is what I use.  Not perfect, but they do a pretty good job - you have to cut them off somewhere for the best fit for your ear.  They also work better if you have a swim cap covering your ears.

Good luck.

I use Speedo Rubber ear plugs and they work great. It took me about a week to get used to them in my ear. A great $2.95 investment!

I use the Speedo wax and it doesn't work so well...maybe I need to try some of these conventional plugs.

I use the same ones that rollins uses. They are awesome. I have never had problems with water in my ears. The best $2.95 that I have spent!

I HATE those first Speedo's posted. I tried those but they hurt like crazy. Now I use Academy branded ones.

when in the pool i just use a GOOD swim cap, and pull it over my ears. in OW i use macks, so i can toss them/loose them and not be sad.

I use  Speedo silicone wax plugs and pull a swim cap over and it keeps the water out pretty well!

I use the moldable silicone wax earplugs (but not speedo brand - they suck).  The key is to make sure you clean your ear first to try to take some of your natural oil off.  I then make it into a blunt bullet shape and cram it in.  The difference is that there's very little in the ear canal itself.  After a while the rubbery in-ear style ones can start to hurt.

My $0.02...

Tom
