Subject: Anyone tried YANKZ?
I know it's a bad idea to change equipment the week of a race, but I wanted something to speed up my T2. Therefore, I bought a pair of YANKZ to keep from having to tie my shoes. Just wondering if anyone has any good or bad experience with them or other types?

well, I was trying to find a picture of what I use, but they are all hard to see.  Anyhow, I've never used Yankz so I can't comment on them.  I use lace locks, which just go on with your regular laces.  It's kind of hard for me to explain.....I know, I'll send you a digital photo.

I tried some elastic laces and they did not work for me. My feet kept falling asleep no matter how loose I tried to make them. I need regular laces to keep my heels locked.

The pair of lace locks I bought seem cheap. Light elastic, so that may have been the problem. The Yankz are more heavy duty.

ps--another problem I had is that the timing chip they gave me had to be threaded into the laces. No velcro straps were supplied. Keep this in mind as you may have to supply your own straps.

Yes! I have 3 pairs of Yankz and I love them! I got a pair originally from my brother in law, and I was very skeptical, as I thought my foot would flip out of my shoes, but they have proven to be the BEST thing I've tried re: Triathlon gear. I have to say, it does take some adjustment. In the beginning my shoes were too tight and my feet started getting tingly and falling asleep. But after some adjustment, they turned out to be great. I bought two more pairs, one for my spare shoes, and one for my old running shoes. I never intend to tie another shoelace. Good Luck. Don't get discouraged... if they seem too loose or too tight, just adjust them and be patient. You'll find the correct tension.

I did run into the problem regarding a timing chip, though... Luckily, the chip was provided with a couple of plastic "attachers" that allowed me to attach the chip to the Yankz directly. It was hard to get the chip off after the race, however, because no one had a scissors, and the plastic attacher was hard to break. But that little inconvenience was well worth it.... (for me at least!!!) You might want to bring a couple of large safety pins with you to races in case "attachers" are not provided!

Wishing you lace free runs, and a lightening speed T2.

LW

Thanks all. Appreciate the info. Tried them this am and them seem to do a nice job. I have done as you said whizzer and just adjusted along the way. I certainly like not having to tie my shoes.

Ellen, what do you do w/ the extra lace after you lock them? Do you end up cutting it off?

I just tie it to the part of the lace closest to the toes.  It makes a big, silly looking loop, but it sure beats tying my shoes.

I have them and love them ....you take the extra lace and cut it and then singe (sp-?) the end w/ a match to get rid of the frayed ends....

I use 'em also. The best part is that once you get them adjusted correctly, not only do you NOT have to tie your shoes, you don't even have to adjust the loop at all. It makes your running shoes into slip-ons!

I just bought some, so I will let everyone know how it goes. I don't think that I will try them for my 8k race tomorrow, though!

YANKZ are great. I finally had a race my shoes didnt come untied. A word of advice though. Adjust your YANKZ wearing what you'll always wear. If you fit them sans socks and cut the extra and you do put socks on YOU WILL lose the circulation to your toes Trust Me. Luckily for me I typically run without socks anyway. 5 stars.

Wish I'd seen this thread earlier. Yankz are great...cuts out some time in the Transition Area, but most of all it's the most comfortable fit I've ever had in shoes...it just seems to fit well with costant tension that doesnt loosen as you run...two thumbs up!

Subject: RE: lace locks?

hey i almost ordered these but i was afraid of the feet going numb as i have freaky feet to begin with and need loose middle but tight top which i don't think will work with yankz type gear but i saw lace locks and wondered if those might work better then i realized i have a pair of lace locks but i not sure how to use them?

anyone with website that demonstrates as all i have are the locks no instructions.   and do you cut the excess lace? makes me a bit nervous but i could always buy more laces.

Thanks!

THanks You wouldn't know that I actually looked at that site myself but don't recall that page--LOL.  Still that won't work exactly as again can't use the elastic stuff .. though i suppose i could use normal lace that i knot off and cut for the lower portion and then use the elasticized upper with the lock.  hmm...gotta think about this.

thanks again
