Subject: CycleOps Fluid-2 Trainer Vibration

I got my Fluid-2 Trainer about 2 weeks ago. The one I tested in the shop was incredibly smooth, but I get a lot of vibration and noise on mine when around 15-17 MPH. Before or after that its fine. Its enough vibration to shake my arms. Does anybody else have this problem? All the bolts are tight, etc.

rob i've never experienced that problem.  do you have enough tension on the roller against the tire?  i'd call customer service and see what they have to say...  my understanding is that they are very good about those things.  if something is wrong, they'll fix it or replace it.

Yeah, its tight.  Before i get on the bike, I put the roller against the tire (usually about 2.5 turns after it touches the tire) then I grab the wheel and spin it by hand to make sure it doesnt slip.  It kinda feels like something isnt balanced right, but then again, why would it stop after going above 18 mph or below 15 or so? Its just in that one area.  I dont think its my bike either.  Its brand spankin new...hasnt even been outside yet.  I think Ill give Cycleops a call tomorrow.

I gave them a call this morning.  They asked to see if the fly wheel was tight, which it was, so they said they would send me a replacement unit to get rid of the vibration.  Wow.  I cant complain about that service.  Ill keep anyone reading this updated when I get the new resistance unit (hopefully early next week).

Umm.. my CycleOps trainer tends to shake more when I ride at higher speed too, but never to a point where my arms would be shaking. Looks like you are checking the bolt everytime you ride... Hmmm... Do you have a riser for the front wheel? It helps stabilizes the bike, I notice. Also, make sure you have a thicker mat for the bike/trainer set up. The mat will help dampen the vibration too. By thicker I mean something thicker than a yoga mat.

I dont really know what you mean by checking the bolt everytime, but I checked it today because the cust serv rep asked me to.  If I ride over 18 MPH or so, its fine,  very little vibration.  Its only between 15-17 MPH.  Its kinda odd why its doing it.  I mean, if its off balance, wouldnt it do it more when Im riding faster?  Anywho, a replacement is on its way...

 Thanks-

Rob

I've noticed the same thing on mine, but at higher speeds it seems to even out. It looks to me that the flywheel isn't properly balanced. Perhaps I should give them a call...

Thats exactly what happens with mine.  You might as well give them a call, it couldnt hurt.  I think the call took me about 3 minutes.  They are also sending the replacement unit to me first, then I will ship the "bad" one to them with a shipping label they put in with the new unit.  So, they pay for all shipping!

I got the replacement trainer in today.  I put in on the frame and tested it out.  The difference is like night and day!  The new one is sooooooo much smoother its almost unreal.  No more vibrations, excess noise, nothing like that! Im glad I called them!
