Pre-race routine:

The night before I went over a checklist. The morning of, I got dressed and ate a packet of instant oatmeal (cinnamon flavor).
Event warmup:

Ran to the beach swim. Here, I checked out some of the people getting in the water (really muddy). Then a run around the parking lot. Light stretching.

Comments:

To the first buoy was tough. I think I started to panic and only swam with my head above water. After settling it, it went really well...besides being kicked in the face and being cut off a couple of times.
What would you do differently?:

Start better. I liked where I started, I just wasn't used to that kind of start. Do somemore ocean swims.
Transition 1

Comments:

AH! I got on my bike and the chain came off! It didn't just come off, it got stuck...so stuck that 2 ppl had to help me get it off.

Comments:

That was a bummer because I was coming off such a high from the swim. Plus, my training partner passed me. It took so long that I was really far behind that I couldn't really make up. It felt like 10 minutes!
It was 3 laps around fashion island. I could pass a lot of ppl on the climbs but would get passed on the flats. I was way too timid on the turns. 1st lap was horrible, but momentum started building for lap 2 and 3.
What would you do differently?:

Make sure bike is in working order, right, right before we start!!! Plus, play with gears more and practice with clip in shoes! Feel more comfortable with bike in general.
Transition 2

Comments:

I threw everything down and ran!
What would you do differently?:

Run harder!

Comments:

I think I could have pushed it harder. My run started out really well. My legs just felt like flying! I sprinted the end because some guy told me to..hehe.
What would you do differently?:

Run the race distance faster more often.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, tried to stretch.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike. I almost started crying!

Event comments:

I liked it. I wish I would have pushed myself more. Pain is now, pride is forever!

bummer on the chain...hey, at least u were able to get it fixed...i see many people that have to walk their bike in from a permanent malfunction.  good racing. and decaying mud-like stuff between your toes...that is the worst...we need more white, sandy beaches to start from!

Congrats on the race!

Awesome job to hang in there despite technical difficulties.  Focus on improving even 1 specific area of the race for next time.  Really work at it, and keep chipping away at the overall set of challenges.

I like the last line from above "Pain is now, pride is forever".
