Who's thinking about doing it?

I know I am...

Not sure if the date will be the same, it seems there are rumors there might be a change.

I'm definitely in.  I've been planning to do IMAZ07 for over a year.  I turn 30 that February, so I figured it would be a good way to welcome a new decade.

The race is very dependent on local officials and in conjuction with an Indian reservation. There has to be meetings first but at the Awards Breakfast this morning they said the fully expected the partnership to continue for many years.

I'm probably going to do it.

I believe they are moving it back to accomodate a date change for the California 1/2. I heard that the California half is moving back because of bad weather the last two years. Could all just be rumors though.

I kinda have thoughts... Really not sure yet. It should be right after my Masters thesis defense, and I will be turning 25 like a week later, so my family will come here (i.e. to the States) to celebrate all that with me. Throwing in an Ironman in the whole thing while my Mom is here and can come support me and watch me finish would be really cool.

Besides we can drive to AZ from Denver, so it woould be cheaper than IMFL or some other event: no hassle with transporting the bike.

But then again, I might be spreading too thin preparing for the defense and for the Ironman at the same time and not do good in either... So possibly Fall race in 2007 or 2008 is a smarter option.

What do you guys think?

In any case the registration is not open yet - I thought it was supposed to be open right away. We probably have some time to decide since they might change the date?

That's a tough call, don't really know what time commitment your thesis requires, an Ironman will require 15-20 hrs/week. Take a look at IM CDA, I was leaning towards IMAZ but some folks in our tri club described IM CDA (June) to me this weekend & it sounds like a great venue. I'm glad IMAZ registration is delayed so I can think about it.

Anyway, don't jeopardize the Masters Thesis, that's far more important than an IM & your mom will be so proud of that accomplishment alone.

I'm probably going to do it in '08.  I'm in school for my Master's and I don't think I could commit the time to do it right.  So I'm probably going to do a 1/2 IM next year and then the full in '08.  Ask me again next year!

bgleich - 2006-04-11 8:27 AM I am in for '07 for first Ironman...

I give you a lot of credit for going for such an early season IM with having to train in the Chi area all winter, or will you be somewhere else next winter?

Note: this question is not meant at all to question your ability to get the training in, but rather due to not being acclimated to any kind of heat at this point in the year.  I love running in the cold, but I don't think I could run as well in 70 degree weather right now.

I'm leaning towards making a run at the '08 edition.  This is my first full season of racing and I have my first HIM towards the end of the season.  Looking at only doing 2 races next year (both HIMs) and get ready for an Iron debut to the 2008 season.

I'm with those in the '08 bandwagon....Last season was all sprints...this one is mostly oly's..07 is HIM's....and 08 is the IM...if all goes to plan. Arizona has always been one of the places I wanted to visit but never have gotten there...what better time for a first visit than your first IM?

I'll be back in '07. The winner spit in my face during the bike this year, so we have unfinished business.

I'm in.

There was a thread on slowtwitch about potentially moving the date, including talk of it moving to fall instead of spring.

I know this off a old thread, but was wondering if anyone else has heard about them moving the date of this race in the future. My local tri shop here in austin has heard they may run 2 races in 2007 (spring and late fall) then in 2008 it being in the fall. Not sure how true this is but was wondering.
I was originally planning on making this my first IM race in 2007 but with new baby the wife has advised me to move it to 2008.
Just wondering if anyone has heard this as well or if it is just a rumor
