Subject: Weight limits on carbon frames
Like many folks on these forums, I probably spend too much time researching, reading and fantasizing about my next bike purchase, specifically a tri bike. I'm about 200 lbs. currently (and falling gradually), and was just curious if that is going to rule out some (or all) carbon frame bikes?

Not at all. You should be fine on any frame you find. I was around 205 and riding a Kestrel 200SCi. Carbon frames are actually really, really strong.

You can call the manufacturer and ask for what load it is 'rated'.   For instance, at Bikesport the other day, I learned that Guru load rates their 'standard' carbon bike molds/geometry for 225lbs.

Also, make sure you test-ride the bikes - especially going up hills.  It's common for us heavier folks to flex the bottom bracket significantly on bikes; to Jim's point, most bikes will likely hold you, but may feel softer than you'd like - it's personal preference at this point.  Again, using the Guru as the example, the Guru folks have a different carbon mold that uses more carbon, especially around the bottom bracket, to stiffen it up for the 225lbs+ crowd.

Lastly, a good LBS will be able to advise you on which manufacturers use additional material in their BB and downtube - adding stiffness to accommodate us.
