Saw the new maps posted today - looks like this is an improvement over last year's bumpy course?

I wondered the same thing.  Also, I am staying in the campground but it says no traffic to and from the campground that morning.  I would imagine there would have to be shuttles to get our stuff to T2.  Confusing.

I emailed TryCharleston a little while ago with some questions, here is the relevant info from their response:

Transition 2 is the finish line and walking distance to your car. There will be no bike transporting at TryCharleston 2012  [...]  it is [our] recommendation that you rack [your bike] Friday  [...] There will be Mt Pleasant Police stationed at Transition 1 from Friday afternoon until the start of the race on Saturday morning to make certain that all bikes are safe and secured. If you choose to rack your bike on Saturday morning you will do a "drive thru" of the campground but you will not be permitted to park your car for an extended period of time. You will then have to drive to the parking area at Cario Middle School and shuttle back. There will be no bike transport on the bus.

this is what I found on the try charleston site and I can only assume spectators will be able to ride the shuttle from t1 to t2 up to 30min after the swim start.

Parking will be at the Cario Middle School Parking lot. There will be Mt Pleasant police directing vehicles to the parking lot. Shuttle service will begin from the school at 4:30am-6:45am. Shuttles will also take people from KOA to Transition 2/Finish line until 30 minutes after the swim.

1. drop bike off at t1

2. park at t2

3. ride shuttle to t1 (spectators ride shuttle back to t2)

Thanks for the updates all! They are helpful. We are coming up from Athens Ga on Friday am and staying at a Mt Pleasant motel. Rack bike on late Friday afternoon.

Taper started today actually. Me and tri-ghost hit a nice brick yesterday even though my di2s batteries died midway through the bike. Looking forward to getting the season properly started after a couple of pool sprints. Hope you all are ready as you can be for an April 70.3 and look forward to meeting you all. I'm the one with the C x'd out on my leg to indicate that I am no longer a Clydes!

The husband and I will also be there on Friday afternoon to rack the bikes. Then we plan to park at Cario M.S. in the morning and take the shuttle over.

phatknot, I'll look for you with your crossed out C!

As for me - I will plan to wear my pink headband in the morning and after the race. 40-something female, short brown hair.

Dang it, I was all set to suggest a Friday meet-up at a family-run Italian restaurant near the campground, only to find out that they had recently closed. How sad!

Is anyone interested in getting a bite of supper on Friday? There is a Wild Wings (burgers, wings, salads...) or a Mellow Mushroom across the highway. I can reserve a table if there is any interest. Here's a link of a map of the shopping center in relation to the KOA campground.

Getting there Friday....probably around 6 pm.  Was going to packet pick up (thats at the bike store...not the campground, correct?) and then to the campground (we are staying there).  I guess my plan is to ride my bike over the middle school Saturday morning, drop off my T2 Stuff and then back to T1 to drop off my bike stuff.

I would love to meet up for dinner, but not knowing what time I get in creates an issue.

I will be on the lookout for everyone.  I will be the slow guy, in the sprint, wearing a Verizon Tri Suit.

Im confused!!!

The email from setup says

"You must have your run number with you in order to pick up your timing chip.
NOTE: Chip pick-up will be available until 6:45 AM."

So once I'm at KOA and getting my timing chip I dont want to go back to T2. So I guess I have to store the running number bib on my race belt on the bike?

That sucks, I'm already out of space and I really did not want to carry a saddle bag.

My guess would be to drop your stuff off at T2.  Your bike will be near the start at T1, thats where you would get your timing chip.  So...if you don't want to bike with your race belt, that may be an issue.  Or....you could use the number on your helmet if you want to leave your belt at T2.

I would think the race number on your helmet would work. But I don't know, good question.

Good point, I forgot that I would have the number on my helmet. Im going to try that and leave my bib # over at T2

i will be putting my race belt and race number on in t2.

Lambchops, interesting pre race meal. Cant say I have ever tried that.

I'll be passing on the wings and beer untill post race also. Theres a Whole Foods down the road that I'll be picking dinner up at.

x2 on the race number. I'll be leaving that at the T2 area. Phew, two transition areas is confusing! Dumb question... what happens to the stuff we leave at T1 - towels, swim cap, goggles?

I am going to have to walk this thing through in my head before I end up forgetting something important.

ive done 2 transitions before. it flows pretty good actually. the main difference is you have to bag your stuff up before heading out on your bike. then they transfer the bags (marked ahead of time with stickers) to t2 where you collect them by number at the end of the race.

It sounds a lot harder than it actually is.  Last year I did Over the Mountain in NC and REV3 SC and both had 2 transitions.  After the race, you'll be like "that was easy".

Undecided I am officially nervous.

Drove by the KOA today to check things out, and Setup Events has all the bike racks out and a big tent up. The water looks dark and chilly. I had hoped for a sunny week to warm up the top layer of water (I'll be one of the sprinters without a wetsuit Yell). No dice, it was cloudy and rainy today. Weather is forecast to be partly cloudy tomorrow, with a chance of rain, but Saturday should be fine.

It sounds like a pre-race meal is not in the cards. I will look for everyone (crossed out C, LEBA jersey, Verizon tri-suit), and I'll have my pink headband on pre- and post-race. Matter of fact, I'll wear it to Trek Bikes tomorrow and to rack my bike, just in case anyone is out there at the same time. Please say hi!

Now back to biting my nails...

Look forward to meeting everybody.  Anybody know what the water temp is?   We are at campsite K20 if anyone is around the campground later, we will be hanging out drinking beer and playing some games with the kids.  Stop by....should have a good fire going in the evening.

So, for those of you who have thought this through completely, or have talked with Set Up folks... it sounds like when we check our bikes this afternoon, we use the swim gear bag to also place our bike gear?  So we leave our helmets, bike shoes, wetsuit, goggles, race number belt, etc next to our bikes overnight?  Otherwise, we will  have to lug that stuff from t2 to t2 in the morning.
