So, got the MRI results on my right hip.  Torn tendon.  Now I have to decide if I have surgery or if I can live with it.  I am leaning towards surgery cause even doing nothing hurts.  But need to check into what Drs, etc.

So, Jen, any running you do will look awesome next to my none.

Ouch!!  Sounds painful!

PS: Kendra - dont be afraid to talk to more than one doctor too if you think you arent getting the answers you need... they are ALL great but you have to like and trust the person you are dealing with (I have no idea how the US health system works but just a thought!)

Definitely good advice.  The first surgeon I talked to about my wrist wanted to detach a tendon, shorten my ulna, and reattach everything.  The second surgeon looked shocked.  We did a lot of things (PT, steroids, etc) before ending up doing surgery, but nothing nearly as drastic as what the first surgeon suggested.

I've already done the PT, steroids route, etc., so now I'm to either live with the pain until it gets bad enough for a hip replacement or I can opt to have surgery now.  I just spent a week in Key West.  Between the flight down hurting the hip, the short walk to the bike rental (4 very short blocks) hurting the hip, and being kept awake at night due to the pain in the hip, I definitely know that I am opting to have the surgery.  I have an appointment to meet with a dr who has been doing hip repair surgery for over the past 5 years on Friday, Feb 1st.  I pick up my MRI results today to carry with me to the appointment.  So, unless he has something different to say I will be scheduling the surgery.

Meanwhile, life goes on.

Are you eligible for hip resurfacing or is this a replacement?  (there are some restrictions on that first procedure, but it's really good for a younger, active person if they meet the criteria)

Cool!

Glad you have work-out stalkers already lined up, too. Send me their names, and I'll loan them a couple of tasers.

haha thanks... well I have agreed to NO running for now, basic weights with an emphasis on LOTS of stretching in those sessions, long power walks, bike, trying some spin and I can swim if I want...

Aiming for 6-7 hours a week... and taking advantage of my working hours

Plus the plan was free through the work corpoerate plan!

I need to go and workout.  The only thing getting in my way is me.  Can't run/walk because of the hip.  Need to go and get in the pool.  Will be starting PT on the hip on Wednesday.  We shall see how that goes.  Last time I did the PT (in the fall) it did not help any.  But they are talking about using ultrasound this time, so I will go in with an open mind.

If there is a knot of connective tissue acting up in the hip the ultrasound may be good.  They used that on me a lot when I tore my gastrocs to promote the tissue healing.

Hey, Super Aussie!  My niece is planning on a trip to Australia at the end of May.  I'm hoping that her Mom and Dad (my wife's sister and bro-in-law) allow her to go, but ONLY if she gets to invite me.

Aussie Road Trip.  Woot!

So, I have had 4 weeks of therapy on my hip.  They did not do Ultrasound but did needling.  My bum feels like a pincushion.  Go to the Dr. this Friday to see what he thinks about the progress.  I'm not that happy, but it is improved a bit as long as I don't do anything like WALK!

Hang in there kendra. I can relate to the pin cushion thing... I've now been in hospital almost a week and the needles never seen to stop... I'm more anxious about them now than when I arrived....

As for the Aussie road trip... I am always happy to take visitors around for a day so let me know if anyone wants a local guide for the day

On the mend thanks dee and hopeful I might be discharged Monday... Gonna be home recovery, new medicines to start under specialist, diet to master and longterm testing... Possible part time transition back to work. And hoping I don't relapse.... My condition is more extensive than it was and the docs reckon I need permanent immune suppression but I'm focused on being healthy enough to celebrate my birthday in 3 weeks and being able to really enjoy my life again like riding my bike for fun without it exhausting me

It might not be easy buy I just keep reminding myself that if I've really just been coping for a long time like the docs think... A whole world of possibilities is just around the corner for me!!!!

Bring on real health and the rest of my thirties
