Subject: another ride, another flat!

It's becoming pretty routine now, another ride on my new tri bike, another flat tire.  Today's worout was supposed to be 15 mile ride, 5 run, 15 mile ride, 5 run.  Came back from the first run and the front tire was flat...and there was a 1/4 gash in the tire.  Had to stop the workout and get to the bike shop since it was 3:00 and Sunday.

So, changed out both of my tires with something a little heavier and thicker.  Also thicker tubes.  I figure the mile an hour it may slow me down will be more than offset by the 5 minutes it takes to change tubes.

Has anyone else ever had this problem?  I was pissed too....i felt great on the bike and didn't hurt too bad on the run.  Oh well...tomorrow's another day!

I had the problem last summer for a couple of weeks. I finally said @%@# IT and bought Armadillo tires. Haven't had a flat since. The profile on the tires is good and even though they are a smidge heavier than regular tires the peace of mind is worth it as far as I'm concerned. The only downside - they are really tough to put on or take off.

I had the same problem. The racing tires that came with my tri bike were very light but thin also.  Just the smallest glass or anything on the street flatted the stupid tire.

I ended up getting some Continental Gatorskins and my buddy got the specialized armadillos.  We also both got the specialized thorn resistant racing tires for double protection.

I know, paranoid, and also heavier, but I can't remember the last time I got a flat, and I'm pretty confident I won't get one in training or race (I hope I didn't jinx myself).

Oh can I relate. I had yet another, glass induced flat this morning. I try to avoid the glass but I can only weave around it so much. It was such a beatiful morning for a long ride and two miles in pfffffffft. Lucky for me I had my patch kit and co2 inflator. It still took me 30 minutes to change the sucker b/c I have the hardest time getting the last part of the bead back in the rim. I still got my ride in, and then went for a 3 mile run. My first brick of the season.

I had two in the same ride last summer - and I was only carrying one tube. I put on Gator Skins (Continental) after that experiance, and have not had another flat since.Dennis

yup, been there done that.  now i carry two tubes and at least on extra co2 cartridge JIC.  I use the specialized 'Fat Boy' tires as they are the only ones big enough to fit the MTB wheels I have.

I will be treating myself to some kevlar tires, will always carry two tubes, patch kit, co2 cartridges AND a hand pump. Now I probably won't ever get another flat.

This happened to me the other week. I was out for a training ride and got a flat. I had my first race ever the next day and thought ok this is great what are the chances that i will get a flat today and then get one tommorow. Pretty good apparently ... I even checked the inside of the tire and everything after the first flat. 17k into the 20k race back tire flats again ... I just bought some new tires yesterday.
