I know you are not suppose to do interval training on back to back days, but I'm curious as to how you work your intervals in for the bike and run. Should I do my bike intervals in the morning and run intervals in the evening and then do an easier work out the next day or should I do bike intervals one day and run intervals the next? How do you do it?

How big are the workouts for each? For me, the arrangement depends on how much stress the workouts will give me.

Here is an example of a work out I want to put in for tomorrow. I would do a ride for a hour in the morning (warm up 10-15 minutes, intervals for 30-35 min and cool down for 10-15). Then I would plan on doing some interval runs for about 3-4 miles in the evening.

What is your running history (years running, average miles per week over the past several months, consistency of training over the past few years)?

I feel I have a strong running background. I've completed 2 marathons a year in the past 5 years (almost took a hour off my time since I started). The past 2 marathons I have run I peaked at about 55 miles a week.  I've been up to 75 miles a week prior to this. I did take about 6 weeks off running after this marathon this past September because I thought I had a stress fracture. The only time I used intervals was in 2010, but I didn't really bike either.

I would suggest getting back to running consistently again (and gradually rebuild your volume) before introducing intervals.  While you wait, start your bike intervals.  See how you feel afterwards.  Personally, I would have a very tough time doing run intervals on the same day as bike intervals.  Even the day after isn't always easy.

x2.  I think this is an excellent plan.

ETA:  If you do them on two consecutive days, it is probably better to do the bike on day 1.

I agree, I think you can do them on back to back days. I have read that you are supposed to give yourself a rest if you do stuff above threshold, which most intervals will be. However, since the bike is less taxing on the body, I have found that I can do threshold or even some work above threshold on the bike the day after I have done 400 or 800's for running.

On the other hand, I rarely do more than about 5 miles total when I do my run intervals.

I know everyone is different but I am pretty sure I got a stress reaction from trying to do run intervals the next day after bike intervals.  I know there is no way to prove it but if you are running on tired legs you are more likely to get injured.  I felt great when doing this but knew in the back of my head that I was asking to get injured.  If you are second guessing yourself about getting injured, then don't do it.
