Subject: RE: Biggest Goal of 2012

I went back to check what I wrote on last year's version of this thread ...

I had various specific goals for 2011. But right now I'll be happy to just have healthy knees that will allow me to bike and run normally again. Check (mostly)

If I get past that point, then I'll start to worry about some of the following

-- Respectably completing my first Oly in May and an HIM in August. Check.
-- Giving my kid brother a run for his money in the Bristol (UK) HM in Sept., possibly beating my HM PR(from 1983, aged 15!). Check on the PR; but the 'kid' brother was still 2 mins faster.
-- Being competitive in Duathlon Nats. DNS. Injured.
-- Continuing to make progress in the pool. Check, kind of; but I've gone downhill in recent months (at least I improved enough that downhill was even possible)

So 2011 went pretty well, and I had a fabulous time. There's no single main goal for this year. I think my 'A' races will be:

-- USAT Duathlon Nats. Hope to make it to the start line in good shape this year.
-- Savageman 70.0. Aiming for a brick and a decent time, whatever that might be for such a wicked course. I do like to climb on the bike.
-- New York Marathon. Still a bit nervous about saying this, as I had told myself in '96 I'd never do another marathon. If I do, then my goal is to beat the 2:58 that kid brother ran this year. But he gets a crack at improving that in London in April.

Otherwise, keep relatively injury free and keep having fun.

Under 12:30 at IM Canada in August.  My fastest there is 12:59:45.  My PR (at IMAZ) is 11:53.  Since I have to train within the time limitations createdby my responsibilities at work and elsewhere, a 12:30 IMC would be a significant accomplishment.

Wow. Amazing goals, everyone -- good luck to all of you!

Mine feels sorta wuss after reading previous posters' replies, but here it is -- two little letters that would mean a whole awful lot to me:

B.Q.

(I made it red, because it makes the goal look faster -- not 'cuz I meant it sarcastically or anything)Laughing

I turn 50 this year and have goals of completing my first marathon in April and my first full IM in September. I'm attempting to grow old gracefully, but not so heavily!

Recover from major knee surgery

Adapt to what is possible and have fun doing so

Short term....walk, build leg strength back, get back to cycling and swimming when allowed by PT and Doc

I don't have any specific racing goals, the races are just the icing on the cake for me.  My goals are all training related.  1200 miles running, 3000 miles biking, and work on my swim stroke to bring me under 2:00/yd for the longer swims.  Add some strength training once a week.

I don't know why, i seem to like the training more than the races!

I am the same way. No race goals for me this year either. Right now I am just focused on trying to heal from last years goals .

So far it's sub-3:30 marathon (actually think I might even get to sub-3:25).

However, I'm deciding on whether or not to do a couple other races later in the year...might do Full Vineman, in which case I'd be going for a sub-12 finish there...also considering my first ultra marathon next December (a 50K).  Depends on health after mid-March marathon.

Last year I met my speed goals, which were modest by most standards here, but big for me.  I have a few speed related goals that I want to get to, and think I can if I focus in the right areas.

The Big One for me is I want to nail 180 lbs.

I have been hovering at 195ish for a while.  Plenty of exercise but too much food makes for stasis.

When I hit 180, I am buying a wetsuit.

My biggest goal is to live a balanced life while trying to be competetive in cycling.  A podium in a cat 3 race would be nice this year though!

Ooh - I want to do that race.

I'd like to better my finish in the Pensacola 5k swim - about the same pace as your goal.

Biggest goal for 2012 is to train consistently and injury free. Secondary goal is to become a better runner by building slow and steady volume.
