Yes another thread on moving to Nashville, advice on pool, workout with teams, etc

Hi Chris.

If you mtn bike then you are set.  There's a nice mtn bike trail near Dickson in Montgomery Bell State Park.

Do you know where you will chose to live relative to Dickson?  If you live East of Dickson then you are approaching the Nashville metro area and I know that area....

I can't answer any of your questions about the Dickson area itself though.  Sorry.

There is a YMCA in Dickson.  I can't find any info on them at the main YMCA website, but you can look them up and call to find out if they have a pool.

West of Nashville along I40 is a community called Bellevue that would be a great place to live.  It's got a Y with a 3-lane lap pool.  Kinda small, but I've trained there and don't usually have trouble getting a lane.

Bellevue also has Percy Warner and Edwin Warner parks which offer great running and cycling (when you are in the mood for hills).  Also, at the far end of Bellevue is the Northern terminus of the Natchez Trace.  Trace bikes is right there and on Saturday mornings in the summer you can ride the trace, with very little traffic and see a hundred other cyclists out training.

If you like to mtn bike there are trails coming in the Warner Park system.

There are a few groups that do.  One even on weekday mornings before work (not good for you working in Dickson).

My Master's swim team will often switch their Thursday evening workouts to Percy Priest in the summer.  So stay in touch and check in with me in about June.  We usually start at 6pm, so you might have time to get there.

There is also a group that will be doing 3 open water practices per week in Old Hickory Lake.  One of them on the weekend.  I could get you in touch with them if you want.

Nothing on the site about it yet.  I got the verbal story from a member at my last swim meet.

I don't know if they allow drop-ins, or if you will be asked to join either their master's swim team, or the triathlon team.

But what I was told that they are doing is to have 3 open water practices per week in the lake.  There is a curriculum that covers drafting, buoy turns, sighting...  It's kayak supported. 

They will also be hosting a competitive open water event.  Initial plans are for a 1/2 mile and 1 mile option.

Those are probably just tentative plans, so I can't guarantee that all comes to pass.

If you are settled in here by Spring I'll take you out on a guided training ride or run.
