When purchasing a powertap can you install it on your factory wheel? If so do you need to send your wheel in to a certain shop or how hard is it?

I got a great deal on a PT wheel this fall and am going to move it to my carbon wheel. It's not a problem, but unless you've done it before it's best done by someone who has done wheelbuilding. You'll need new spokes as the hubs are different sizes. I'm having the person at my LBS who builds wheels do it for me.

It all depends on your existing rim if it's possible or not... drilling needs to be the same, spoke angles with 2x on both side needs to be functional, etc. as long as you have a rim that works, any good bike shop can build it for you

They could not put a power tap on my existing Hed Jet 6. Totally bummed me out. I ended up with a really cool set of wheels instead so I guess it turned out OK.

Yes but it can be pricey.  Plan on spending around $150 for it.  Often times it is just easier to buy powertap wheel that is already taken care of for you.
