I'm planning on doing this Tri in April. I'm curious what others have worn for this event. April mornings are still chilly. I really don't want to be soaking wet for a ride and run if it is cold! Thanks.

I got married on 4/12/08 and it snowed all morning.  I hope it is an indoor swim?

That time of year is a crapshoot.  Hope for the 60s, but plan for the 30s.  If it is cold, take your time in T1 and get your layers on.  Arm warmers, gloves, etc.  Anything that is easy to peel off as you warm up, especially while running.  It isnt worth being a few seconds faster if you end up getting sick or hypothermia.

I decided if it's cold I'm cold to take the extra couple of minutes and get out of my wet suit, dry off and layer up. I'm sure I won't be the only one!

Having done this tri several times, its hard to tell what the temps will be. But i can tell you that the wind has always been a factor on the bike since its a flat North to South course.

Also its a pool swim so no wetsuit needed. This tri is very well ran and a great way to kick off the season.

I think I am going to do this tri.  I am looking at my schedule and am itching for a tri before the KC Tri on May 20.  This is the only one on the calendar that I can find.  Looks like they have had good turnouts the last couple of years.  Who is with me???

We have a big audit going on at work the week before and the week after the Heritage Park tri.  Not sure I can get that one in.

I've got a few comments:

1) 2 hr drive is a long way at 4 am (or for a hotel stay).

2) a pool swim?  naah.

3)  I'm doing the "indoor triathlon" at Prairie Life in Overland Park next weekend. All inside.  just a warm-up for the season.

I reread my post and I'd like to edit my second comment:

2) at two hour drive with or without a hotel for a pool swim?  naah.

I'm signed up and will be there. Maybe this weather will hold, and it will be warm.

Oh, I guess I should add that I won't actually be "with" you but a considerable distance behind you.

Looks like chances for rain, but with a pattern that the rain will be each evening for the next few days.  Maybe we will be lucky and it will hold off Sunday morning.  Should be a bit warmer than they were expecting, though.

I hope so. I don't mind rain -- I'm not looking forward to 27 mph winds.

I just received the weather policy, and it looks like it will be cancelled only in the event of a tornado warning -- torrential rain or lightening will result in delays.

For practice, I ran in 51 degrees, windy, and rainy this morning. Smile

BRUTAL WIND FOR THE BIKE!!!!!  (But really nice weather overall considering the mayhem the previous night.)

I took 1st in the men's 40-44 age group and 6th overall!  Very happy, although I had a horrible T1 trying to pull a tri top on after the swim.  The top rolled up as I pulled it over my head and I couldn't get it unrolled for a while and probably wasted 20-30 seconds there.  Live and learn . . .

That wind was a blast on the way out on the bike, but brutal on the way back.  It was really nice for the run to cool us off a bit mostly at our sides.  I was hitting stretches on the way out of maintained 33-35 mph and on the way back of 18-20 mph.  Ugh.  22.5 mph average for the entire bike according to the Garmin.

Great event!  I will be back again next year.

Well done Patrick.  Your collection of hardware must be getting fairly large.

I'm guessing the winds were about 20 mph like in Wichita, correct?  if so that is an amazing ride back in my books.  I'm new so if I were averaging that with no wind I would be hyped! lol

I was riding at around 30mph at a few points where I could not feel any airflow at all.  So, I would say the winds were about 30mph sustained with a gust here and there.

I would agree with that. The gusts were as strong or stronger than anything I've ridden in -- they just about blew me off the road a couple times.

Patrick had a wonderful race. (Congrats again!) Mine was okay. But I improved my times in everything and am inching closer and closer to the middle of the pack.

I think 30 mph winds would almost put me at a standstill into the wind.  very impressive ride.
